Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
To coordinate with the CHAMPS faculty director and the CHAMPS Beatty Center faculty director to launch a medical-legal partnership with the Rice School of Law, USC Upstate, and Spartanburg Regional Health System (SRHS) and to provide holistic public health legal services, coordination of services, and foster community engagement for the medical-legal partnership known as CHAMPS – Beatty Center

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and 2 or more years of experience as a practicing attorney. Must be a member in good standing of the South Carolina Bar.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
South Carolina Bar licensure

Preferred Qualifications
5 years of related legal experience, including 2 years of public interest experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work for and with the families of children who are patients of SRHS.
  • Ability to collaborate with Rice School of Law faculty, Beatty Center faculty, staff, students, social workers, and health care professionals.
  • Ability to work independently on legal cases.

Provide civil legal representation to low-income clients referred from SRHS and litigate cases and appeals in SSI, Medicaid, housing conditions, education, income stability, and public benefits matters on behalf of CHAMPS clients.
