Job Summary:
The Charge Entry Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely entry of charges, coding verification, and claim preparation to support the revenue cycle process. This role works closely with clinical and billing teams to ensure services are properly documented, coded, and billed in compliance with payer and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of medical coding guidelines and can independently assess documentation for accuracy and completeness. Experience in ophthalmology is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately enter charges, procedures, and modifiers into the EMR system based on clinical documentation
- Review and verify coding for accuracy and completeness prior to claim submission
- Ensure appropriate use of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes
- Identify and resolve charge discrepancies, missing information, or documentation issues
- Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to clarify coding and documentation questions
- Ensure compliance with coding guidelines, payer requirements, and regulatory standards to support audit readiness and minimize risk
- Assist in claim scrubbing and error correction to reduce denials
- Monitor charge entry work queues to ensure timely processing and productivity standards are met
- Maintain a high level of accuracy in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Support the billing team with additional revenue cycle functions as needed
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of medical coding and charge entry experience required; Ophthalmology experience highly preferred
- Certification: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through the American Academy of Professional Coders or equivalent certification required
- Software: Experience with Modernizing Medicine (ModMed) or similar EMR systems preferred
- Knowledge: Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding guidelines; Familiarity with payer requirements and claim submission processes
- Skills & Abilities:Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; High attention to detail and accuracy; Ability to manage high-volume workloads, prioritize tasks, and work independently
Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
