Job Title: Charge Nurse – Oncology

Department: Nursing Services
Reports To: Nurse Manager / Head Nurse
Location: Fakeeh University Hospital, Dubai

Job Summary:

The Oncology Charge Nurse is responsible for leading and coordinating the daily operations of the Oncology Unit, ensuring the provision of safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care to cancer patients. The role involves supervision of nursing staff, oversight of clinical practice, patient management, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high standards of oncology care.

Key Responsibilities:Clinical Leadership & Patient Care

  • Oversee the delivery of specialized nursing care to oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and palliative care.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with physicians and allied health professionals.
  • Ensure safe administration of chemotherapy and adherence to handling protocols for cytotoxic drugs.
  • Monitor and manage complex clinical situations, including oncologic emergencies (e.g., febrile neutropenia, tumor lysis syndrome).
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for oncology nurses, providing guidance on complex patient care and clinical decision-making.

Operational & Administrative Duties

  • Supervise and coordinate nursing assignments to ensure optimal staff utilization and patient coverage.
  • Monitor compliance with hospital policies, infection control standards, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct daily rounds to assess unit workflow, patient satisfaction, and staff performance.
  • Manage unit supplies, equipment, and medication stock levels, ensuring timely requisitions.
  • Participate in departmental budgeting, staffing, and scheduling processes.

Quality & Education

  • Promote evidence-based oncology nursing practice and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support staff development through training, competency assessments, and continuing education programs.
  • Participate in audits, accreditation preparation, and policy review related to oncology services.
  • Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment plans, and post-treatment care.

Team Collaboration & Communication

  • Facilitate effective communication among nursing staff, physicians, pharmacists, and allied health professionals.
  • Address and resolve patient or family concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case conferences for complex oncology cases.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
  • Licensure: Valid RN license from UAE Health Authority (DOH/DHA/MOH).
  • Certification:
  • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Administration Certification (mandatory).
  • Oncology Nursing Certification (preferred).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications (mandatory).
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of nursing experience, including at least 2 years in oncology and 1–2 years in a supervisory/charge role.

  • Shift-based role including weekends and holidays.
  • Exposure to cytotoxic agents and infectious materials with adherence to safety protocols.
  • Requires prolonged standing and occasional lifting of equipment or patients.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: AED9,000.00 - AED10,000.00 per month
