Job Title: RN – Charge Nurse, Operating Room (Relief)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Registered Nurse – Charge Nurse (Operating Room) to join our surgical team in Chicago. The Charge Nurse will provide direct patient care, oversee OR operations, and supervise nursing staff to ensure high-quality, safe, and efficient surgical services.

This role requires strong leadership, advanced clinical judgment, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. The ideal candidate has extensive OR experience, knowledge of multiple surgical specialties, and a proven ability to coordinate team members effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct nursing care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Serve as the charge nurse, supervising OR staff and ensuring smooth daily operations.
• Assist surgeons during procedures, maintaining sterile technique and patient safety.
• Collaborate with healthcare teams to implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulations, and evidence-based standards.
• Participate in staff training, education, and performance evaluations.
• Maintain accurate documentation in patient records and electronic medical systems.
• Monitor and manage OR inventory, supplies, and equipment readiness.
• Lead in spine, orthopedic, and robotic surgeries, ensuring optimal outcomes.
• Provide leadership in quality improvement and professional development initiatives.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
• Current Illinois RN license (active and in good standing).
• BLS and ACLS certifications (required).
• 4–5 years of Operating Room experience.
• Strong knowledge of inventory, supplies, and OR workflow.
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred:

• PALS certification.
• Experience in spine, orthopedic, and robotic surgeries.
• Prior leadership or charge nurse experience.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Schedule:

• Full-time
• 8-hour shifts, Monday–Friday (11:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
• 24-hour call schedule, shared among OR team members
