CONTRACT CHEMIST

We are seeking a responsible and competent Chemist for a local industrial client. This individual will be working at the client’s site and will be responsible for testing the various hydrocarbon streams utilizing the client’s lab equipment in the client’s QC Laboratory.   

Candidates must be able to pass a graded background screen and pre-employment drug & alcohol screen.

Job Description:

The purpose of the client’s Laboratory is to verify that the petroleum streams and products meet all specifications. The contract chemist contributes to the testing, method development, troubleshooting analytical equipment, and performing Preventive Maintenance and Calibration of the Lab Equipment. The prime duty of the chemist is to assure that all data is accurate and precise and reaches customers in a timely manner. This is achieved by training testers to perform all procedures correctly and maintaining analytical instrumentation with all QA/QC techniques and procedures required to verify that data is within acceptable tolerances. For certain values and results produced from the lab, statistical techniques are used, and the chemist will perform these duties. The chemist is frequently called upon to coordinate the interaction between internal and external customers. Additionally, the contract chemist may be asked to perform special projects, which fall beyond the routine requirements of the testers. The contract chemist is expected to educate on the latest innovations, procedures, methods, techniques, and developments that affect the industry. The contract chemist is required to write memos, documents, and procedures. Additional duties may include shipping, ordering supplies, and working with vendors.

Responsibilities:

·        Routine analytical work in support of senior chemists and Lab Superintendent.

·        Maintain and troubleshoot analytical equipment.

·        Verify that analytical results are accurate per relevant methods.

·        Participate in special projects as identified by lab supervisor, operations, engineering, etc. for the optimization of the site’s production.

·        Maintain hardware and software systems on Lab computers and analyzer interfaces, including maintaining Labware and LIMS interfacing programs as required

·        Help provide a safe workplace in the client’s QC Laboratory.

·        Impart information to internal and external customers in a timely fashion.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

·        Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related science

·        At least 2-3 years in a similar field.

·        Possess good laboratory instrumentation and computer skills

·        Interpersonal and communication skills

·        Detail oriented and Procedure writing skills
