To assess patient needs, plan, implement and evaluate the plan of patient care. Direct junior and auxiliary team members Provide safe quality ethical nursing care in accordance with the Hospital, international and federal standards and regulations
- Responsible for the safe and timely administration of all aspects of intravenous and oral chemotherapy medications
- Maintain a detailed knowledge in management of extravasation in accordance to uhs protocol and guidelines.
- Maintain a sound knowledge and clinical practice in accessing, de-accessing and care of port-A-catheter
- It is the responsibility of the oncology nurse on safely discard the cytotoxic waste in accordance to uhs policy and procedure
- The prevention of possible exposure to cytotoxic agent in all form to the members of the team and patient’s relative is a responsibility of the oncology nurse following the uhs protocols
- It is the responsibility of the oncology nurse to protect her/his own health, preventing exposure to cytotoxic agent in all forms through wearing personal protective equipment as per UHS guidelines and protocols.
- Assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of care plans for patients to ensure the delivery of safety, high standard of care.
Develop and maintain a sound knowledge and clinical practice in chemotherapy administration in accordance to UHS policy, guidelines and protocol
- Book the patient for his/ her chemotherapy session as per the chemotherapy protocol
- Access the patient’s laboratory work up
- Calculating the body surface area
- Checking the chemotherapy order and re-calculating the dose
- Ensure that a consent has been signed by the patient or the legal guardian
- Ensure that the chemotherapy prescription has been completed and signed by the oncologist.
- Ensure that the chemotherapy medication ordered in the HIS is completely identical to the chemotherapy prescription signed and completed by the oncologist
- Communicate with the pharmacy ensuring the availability of the chemotherapy medications a week before the client’s appointment
- Monitor the patient during the chemotherapy infusion in accordance to the uhs guidelines and procedure.
- Report to the oncologist any untoward reaction of chemotherapy during and after the infusion.
- At the end of the chemotherapy, ensure that the patient understands the ongoing management and follow up plan
- Maintain a sound knowledge of the chemotherapy medications he/she is handling at its protocol in accordance to uhs policy and procedure.
- Maintain a detailed knowledge on safe handling of cytotoxic medications and how to manage cytotoxic medication spillage as per UHS guidelines and protocol.
Required- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing holding a
BSc Nursing /Diploma of Nursing, not less than 3 years study duration
- Minimum 2 years post-graduation experience with at least 1 years in current specialty
- BLS certificate
Desirable
Licenses/RegistrationRequired- Current license in country of origin
- UAE Ministry of Health License
Within three months of employment
Position criteria- 2 years post graduate experience
- Computer literate familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel
- Must be fluent in written and spoken English, spoken Arabic an advantage
Advantage- Previous UAE experience
- experience in a commissioning environment
- experience of working in International accredited hospital (JCIA)
- Participated in Preceptors/Education programs
