Job Summary
The Chief Accountant is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations of a five-star hotel in Bahrain, including rooms division and multiple food & beverage outlets. The role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, compliance with Bahrain laws and tax regulations, and adherence to international hotel brand standards. The Chief Accountant plays a key role in supporting hotel management through financial analysis, budgeting, and cost control.
Key Responsibilities Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Manage daily accounting operations including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Cashiering.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial statements in accordance with IFRS and hotel brand standards.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Oversee bank reconciliations, cash flow management, and treasury activities.
- Coordinate year-end closing and liaise with external auditors.
Revenue & Rooms Accounting
- Supervise room revenue accounting, city ledger, guest ledger, and credit management.
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition and compliance with hotel policies.
- Monitor billing accuracy, credit limits, and timely collection of receivables.
Food & Beverage Accounting
- Oversee accounting operations for multiple F&B outlets, including revenue postings, POS reconciliation, and cost of sales.
- Review F&B cost percentages, menu costing, and variance analysis.
- Ensure proper inventory controls, stock counts, valuation, and wastage monitoring.
- Work closely with Purchasing and Stores to maintain effective cost control.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cost Control
- Assist in preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and business plans.
- Analyze actual results versus budget and provide detailed explanations to management.
- Support department heads in identifying cost-saving and efficiency initiatives.
Compliance & Statutory Requirements (Bahrain)
- Ensure compliance with Bahrain VAT regulations, including VAT calculations, filings, and audits.
- Oversee statutory compliance related to LMRA, GOSI, and local labor regulations.
- Ensure timely processing of payroll, end-of-service benefits, and employee-related statutory requirements.
- Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard hotel assets and prevent fraud.
Systems & Controls
- Ensure accurate integration between PMS, POS, and accounting systems.
- Maintain and enforce finance SOPs in line with hotel brand and corporate requirements.
- Support system upgrades, audits, and process improvements.
Leadership & Coordination
- Supervise, train, and develop the accounting team to ensure high performance and compliance.
- Coordinate with Front Office, F&B, HR, Purchasing, and Engineering departments.
- Act as the main finance contact for auditors, banks, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
- Professional qualification (CA, CPA, ACCA, CMA) is preferred.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in hotel accounting, with at least 3–5 years in a five-star or luxury hotel.
- Prior experience in the GCC or Bahrain is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of hotel systems (Opera, SUN, SAP, Oracle, or similar) IDS added advantage.
