Job Summary
The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) is responsible for overseeing all financial activities of the organization, providing strategic financial leadership, and ensuring the company's long-term financial sustainability. The CFO will drive financial planning, budgeting, reporting, risk management, and compliance while supporting business growth and profitability across retail operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement the company's financial strategy aligned with business objectives.
- Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO and Board of Directors.
- Lead long-term financial planning and business growth initiatives.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, expansions, and investment decisions.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Oversee annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Monitor financial performance and analyze key business metrics.
- Develop financial models to support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure accurate and timely management reporting.
Retail Financial Management
- Monitor sales performance, gross margins, inventory turnover, and operating expenses.
- Analyze store profitability and recommend improvement initiatives.
- Support pricing strategies, promotions, and category profitability analysis.
- Optimize working capital, inventory investment, and cash flow management.
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Ensure accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain compliance with IFRS and local regulatory requirements.
- Oversee external audits and statutory reporting.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls.
Treasury & Cash Flow Management
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and funding requirements.
- Oversee debt management and financing activities.
- Ensure adequate liquidity for business operations and expansion plans.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, corporate governance, and legal requirements.
- Develop and maintain risk management frameworks and policies.
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop the finance, accounting, treasury, and tax teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and performance excellence.
- Mentor and develop future finance leaders within the organization.
Technology & Process Improvement
- Drive automation and digital transformation within finance operations.
- Enhance ERP systems and financial reporting capabilities.
- Improve financial processes and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related field.
- MBA, CPA, ACCA, CA, CMA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, financial reporting standards, and corporate finance.
Experience
- Minimum 15+ years of progressive finance experience.
- At least 5 years in a senior finance leadership role.
- Proven experience in the retail, hypermarket, supermarket, FMCG, or distribution sector.
- Experience managing large-scale, multi-location retail operations.
