Chief of Police

Overview
The Village of New Washington is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Chief of Police.

Located approximately 20 miles northwest of Mansfield, New Washington is a peaceful rural community with a population of around 900 residents. The Village is home to the Buckeye Central School District and spans approximately one square mile, centered at the intersection of State Routes 103 and 602.

The New Washington Police Department is well-equipped with modern technology and resources, including:

• Up-to-date body camera systems
• In-car Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs)
• Well-maintained police cruisers
• Red Dot Optic Pistols

The Chief of Police will be a patrolling chief, actively engaged in both administrative leadership and day-to-day law enforcement duties. This role involves close collaboration with residents, community stakeholders, and partner agencies throughout Crawford County.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee all law enforcement operations, personnel management, and administrative functions
• Develop and enforce departmental policies and procedures
• Prepare and manage the department budget
• Ensure ongoing training and professional development
• Coordinate with regional law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and county prosecutors
• Engage in community policing and maintain strong public relations

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in law enforcement leadership, strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to community-oriented policing, and the ability to effectively manage both personnel and administrative responsibilities.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
