Chief Risk Officer

For one of our clients - a leading commodity trading organization focused on driving sustainable global growth through disciplined risk governance - we are looking for a Chief Risk Officer. You will report to the CEO and have close engagement with the Board.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of the enterprise risk management framework with a focus on market risk in commodity and energy trading.
• Provide strategic guidance to the CEO and Board on market risk exposures, mitigation plans, and overall risk appetite.
• Foster a strong risk culture across trading, treasury, and investment teams.
• Bring credibility, gravitas, and mature stakeholder management to the leadership group.
• Identify, assess, and monitor market risks across commodities, FX, interest rates, derivatives, and trading exposures.
• Build, validate, and maintain advanced quantitative models (VaR, stress testing, sensitivities, scenario analysis).
• Define, monitor, and enforce market risk limits across trading desks.
• Conduct stress tests to evaluate exposure during volatile or disruptive market conditions.

Technology, CTRM & Analytics

• Leverage and optimize CTRM (Commodity Trading & Risk Management) systems to monitor, measure, and report market risk.
• Drive automation, analytics enhancements, and improved data quality in risk reporting.
• Lead digital initiatives to strengthen predictive and real time risk insights.

Stakeholder Management & Advisory

• Serve as the primary advisor on market risk matters for trading and commodity operations.
• Engage effectively with auditors, regulators, and external stakeholders.
• Partner closely with credit, operational, and liquidity risk teams to ensure a unified enterprise wide risk approach.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Risk, or a related field; FRM or CFA preferred.
• 15+ years of experience in risk management, including at least 5 years in senior market risk leadership roles.
• Mandatory experience in oil/energy or commodity trading markets.
• Strong expertise in market risk modeling and CTRM platforms.
• Deep understanding of trading instruments, derivatives, risk frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
• Proven ability to build strategies, implement controls, and influence senior stakeholders across global markets.
• Experience with the African market.
