Examples of Work

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate daily training activities and develop individualized training plans in collaboration with supervisors, ensuring alignment with policy, procedures, best practices, and staff development needs.
  • Facilitate training in virtual and in-person settings, delivering instruction 1:1 and in groups of up to 40 participants.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, step-by-step guidance, and hands-on frontline support, accompanying staff in the field to model effective casework, demonstrate real-time decision-making, and reinforce best practices.
  • Maintain communication with trainees, staff, and supervisors to monitor progress, provide supportive feedback, and document staff performance and development.
  • Create and update training content using learning platforms, incorporating child welfare best practices and adult learning principles.
  • Adapt training methods to meet diverse learning styles and individual needs.
  • Ensure understanding and application of policies, procedures, and case management expectations.
  • Foster engagement with trainees, families, and stakeholders while applying family-centered, evidence-based practices that promote child safety, permanency, well-being, cultural respect, inclusion in decision-making, and normalcy through least-restrictive approaches.
  • Support staff retention by promoting a positive learning environment and confidence in role performance.


Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, human development, mental health care, education, criminal justice or other closely related area AND experience performing case management responsibilities in protective services, alcohol/drug abuse, juvenile justice probation, counseling or social services delivery.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a Child and Family Specialist with DHHS in Nebraska. Experience as a CFS specialist, currently or recently, and have completed all required training. At least one year of demonstrated experience providing case management within Child Protection Services, preferably in Nebraska, two or more years strongly preferred. Knowledge of Family Assessment and Engagement, Family Centered Practice and Safety Organized practice, with experience training, coaching, and providing technical direction to others regarding these programs, strongly preferred.

Other : Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation is required. Travel for face-to-face visits with children, families, service providers, and other work related. Participate in On-call rotation.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge of child welfare practices, procedures, systems, and terminology used by CFS Specialists, including record-keeping, database management, and the juvenile court process. Proficient in professional written communication, including grammar, punctuation, and business writing.

Ability to communicate effectively across multiple formats and build strong working relationships with diverse individuals. Skilled in summarizing and presenting technical information and maintaining accurate, organized documentation. Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, and directives to meet performance goals, while quickly learning agency operations. Demonstrates sound judgment, adaptability, professionalism, and a strong commitment to confidentiality.
