Child Development Expert (Ages 8–12) — AI Empowerment Platform

Overview
We are developing an AI empowerment platform for children that supports cognitive, creative, ethical, and cultural development. We need a child development expert to ensure our content is age-appropriate, psychologically sound, and promotes healthy engagement with AI technology.

About the Project

• Teaching children about AI bias, fairness, privacy, and critical thinking
• Interactive scenarios where children “detect” AI problems and “teach” AI to be better
• Physical robot companion for kinesthetic learning
• Family co-learning component (parent dashboard)

What You’ll Do

• Review and validate learning scenarios for developmental appropriateness
• Advise on cognitive load and attention span considerations for ages 8–12
• Ensure content doesn’t create fear/anxiety about technology
• Design emotional safety guardrails for AI interaction
• Recommend engagement patterns (session length, break points, reward timing)
• Consult on measurement frameworks for developmental impact
• Advise on compliance considerations from a psychological perspective

Required Skills

• Master’s or PhD in Child Psychology, Developmental Psychology, or Educational Psychology
• 5+ years working with children ages 8–12
• Understanding of screen time and technology impact on children
• Experience with research-based intervention design
• Knowledge of social-emotional learning frameworks
• Published research or professional publications (preferred)

Preferred Skills

• Experience consulting for EdTech companies
• Familiarity with AI/technology literacy topics
• Knowledge of neurodiversity and inclusive design
• Experience with multicultural child development
• Children’s privacy regulation knowledge

Deliverables

• Developmental appropriateness review of 6 module concepts
• Age-group guidelines document (cognitive, emotional, social considerations)
• Engagement pattern recommendations (session design)
• Emotional safety framework for AI interactions
• Risk assessment for content topics
