Why does the job exist?

The Child Support Legal Assistant will:
Interview;

Gather data;

Prepare legal documents to establish paternity;

Establish child and medical support orders;

Enforce child, medical, and spousal support orders.

How does it get done?

The Child Support Legal Assistant is responsible for:
Providing excellent time management, multitasking, and organizational skills in order to complete the tasks of establishing and enforcing court orders;

Testifying in court regarding a child support case, if requested by an Attorney.

Parties of child support cases;

Employers;

Child Support Services Division (CSSD) Management;

Child Support Services Division (CSSD) Attorneys.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years' experience in legal research or legal document preparation, accounting, finance or social health, or human service program development or delivery and/or clerical experience in a Child Support Office. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Employment is subject to a pre-employment criminal background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. May need to testify in court hearings.
