Childcare Teacher/ Floater

Job Description
As the only trauma focused childcare center in the state of New Mexico, New Beginnings Childcare Center (NBCC) cares for some of our community’s most vulnerable children, focusing on those with unique behavioral and emotional challenges. Our staff is trained in the core principles of childhood traumatic stress and provided the necessary tools to best serve each child, ensuring staff is able to provide individualized care.
Our ideal candidate:

-Due to the population of children we work with there is a higher expectation of emotional maturity; trauma trainings included in employment
-The children in the center love hugs and high fives- you must too!
-Our ideal candidate will have a desire to have a career in early childcare. Knowledge is power in our team, and our center has opportunities to help you earn your Early Childhood Development degree.
-This person must have basic knowledge of childcare needs as well as provide a stimulating, fun learning environment. This basic knowledge does not have to come from previous daycare experience. If you are a parent or maybe have taken care of younger siblings or maybe, you are the cool aunt/ uncle- we want you to apply!
-While being creative and enjoying having fun, we are searching for someone that is dependable and professional. This candidate will be a role model and person of support for our center’s children. While we need you to complete our team, it is the KIDS that need you most.
What will I be doing?

  • Educating children about fundamental concepts, such as colors, letters, numbers, and shapes. (Do you remember Brown Bear, Brown Bear?)
  • Encouraging social interactions between children and improving their self-esteem. (Not only are we all friends but we are awesome friends!)
  • Engaging in creative methods of learning, such as arts and crafts, supervised play, and storytelling. (Who wants to be the big, bad wolf when acting out the three little pigs?)
  • Planning comprehensive curriculums to address early childhood development needs. (The big question- which is better- the hokey pokey or head, shoulders, knees, and toes?)
  • Instilling a sense of order and discipline in the classroom. (Children LOVE structure, you will get to see how your daily system impacts them directly)
  • Ensuring the classroom is a clean, safe, and organized environment. (Children learn by what they see. Sing a clean-up song and you’ll have a clean-up crew ready)
  • Communicating with parents to better understand the children's home lives and psyches (These children are with us oftentimes more than they are at home. Help the parents by sharing the ups of the day and how you navigated the downs. We are a team, after all)
  • Writing up reports for parents on each child's developmental progress (You might not report that little Johnny grew four inches in one day, but you might get to share how he helped a friend after they fell off the tricycle or how little Sarah told herself that even though she colored her picture the wrong color, she is still very smart and a great artist!)

Qualifications:
-Must be 18 years or older
-Must be able to pass a background check
-Basic knowledge of childcare and engaging with children
Compensation:
-Hourly wages start at $18, but can be negotiated dependent on experience and qualifications
