The Childcare Worker Position is a part-time role (2-5hours/week) that serves at least 3 Sundays per month on a flexible, rotating basis. Currently shift times are Sundays 9:30am-12:30pm and/or 5:15pm-7:15pm. Shift times are subject to change based on programming needs of the Church.
It is expected that the Childcare Worker of Grace UMC has a genuine love of children, enjoys serving others, and has a good knowledge of age-specific needs of infants through 12 years old to assist our growing ministry with children..
PRINCIPAL FUNCTION
Provide for the physical, emotional and intellectual stimulation and safety of children ages 0-12 years during Children’s Church, Sunday School, Church Events, and Small Groups. Works under the direction of the Director of Children’s Ministry and reports directly to the Pastor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Knows and abides by all Safe Sanctuary policies of Grace UMC at all times.
- Maintains a safe environment (physical, mental, and spiritual) for all.
- Communicates and treats all children with courtesy and respect.
- Works under the direction of the Director of Children and Families.
- Cleans and disinfects toys each Sunday that are used after the children have left.
- Ensure that the facilities are organized and secure after the children have departed.
- Utilize good hand hygiene after assisting children with tissues or the rest room.
- Communicates supply needs or any concerns to the Children’s Director.
- Engages children in organized activities while with them, i.e. age-appropriate songs, stories, lessons, crafts, etc.
- Stays until all children are secured with a responsible adult named on the child’s registration form.
- Provide 24 hours notice for an absence except in case of illness. No-shows may result in termination.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 18 years of age and a high school graduate.
- Must possess the physical capabilities to perform all tasks associated with the position.
- Must have the ability to function in a diverse Christian environment with people of different beliefs, economic status, and identities in ways that align with our Mission Statement.
- Maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR training and certification for infants and children.
- Must have good communication and interpersonal skills with all ages.
- Must be permissible to a background and criminal check prior to employment.
- Must work at least 3 Sundays each month.
- Workers are expected to work holidays that fall on Sunday and may be asked to work additional hours during (or in preparation for) special events or programming such as Holy Week, VBS, workdays, etc.
- Related experience preferred.
PAY
EVALUATION
- Evaluations to be conducted annually at the discretion of the Church Council.
TERMINATION
- This is an at-will contract requiring two weeks’ notice from either the employer or employee for termination/resignation
Pay: $20.00 per hour
