POSITION TITLE: Christmas Bell Ringer

DEPARTMENT: Administration

UNIT: Tacoma Corps

REPORTS TO: Kettle Coordinator/Business Operations Manager

STATUS: Temporary/Seasonal, Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Varies – North Tacoma, South Tacoma, Lakewood, Gig Harbor

WORK HOURS: Monday through Saturday – some split shifts up to 40 hours a week.

The approximate start date is November 29th, and working through December 24th

GENERAL STATEMENT:

SCOPE OF POSITION:
Christmas Bell Ringers are important to The Salvation Army and a culturally iconic part of the Christmas Tradition. They provide nostalgia, Christmas Cheer, and are responsible for an important source of revenue that allows The Salvation Army Tacoma Corps to carry on the part of its mission concerned with providing for the needy of our community without discrimination.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Stand outside an assigned store and ring the bell for charitable donations for up to 8 hours.
  • Be a friendly and a positive face for The Salvation Army Tacoma Corps.
  • Within reason and without causing harm to self or others, guard the Red Kettle; do not walk or turn away from kettle stand.
  • Interact with and greet store patrons.
  • Provide a sense of fun and holiday cheer.
  • Dress appropriately for weather conditions.
  • Relieve previous staff/volunteer in a timely manner (not making coworkers wait to leave).
  • Follow all policies and mandates of The Salvation Army and partnering business.
  • Take a 30-minute non-paid meal break for every 5 hours of work.
  • Communicate with the Kettle Coordinator 24 hours before missing a shift whenever reasonably possible.
  • May need to stay up to 30 minutes after scheduled end of shift to meet Christmas Driver.
  • Must not leave early without first contacting Kettle Coordinator for instructions.
  • Must be able to provide your own transportation to and from The Salvation Army.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to clear a Background Check.
  • Complete Bell Ringer Training (by invitation only)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand or sit (if medically necessary) on concrete for up to 8 hours at a time
  • Work is performed outside in a wide variety of weather conditions such as cold or freezing temperatures for up to 8 hours at a time.
  • Must be able to lift 5-10 pounds
