The CHW Fabricator is responsible for the fabrication, installation, and modification of chilled water piping systems in accordance with technical drawings, specifications, and project requirements. The role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, welding, cutting, and assembling techniques to ensure the accurate and efficient installation of CHW systems for commercial, industrial, or institutional projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, piping schematics, and technical specifications for chilled water systems.
- Fabricate CHW pipework including cutting, threading, grooving, welding, and assembling pipes and fittings.
- Measure and layout pipe systems in accordance with project drawings and instructions.
- Select appropriate materials, tools, and equipment for fabrication work.
- Install supports, hangers, brackets, and insulation for CHW systems as needed.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant codes, safety standards, and quality requirements.
- Coordinate with HVAC technicians, plumbers, and other trades to integrate systems.
- Maintain accurate records of materials used and work performed.
- Troubleshoot and correct any fabrication or installation issues.
- Perform pressure testing, flushing, and commissioning support for CHW systems.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the fabrication area.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school certification is a plus.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in pipe fabrication or mechanical HVAC systems.
- Strong knowledge of chilled water systems and piping practices.
- Proficient in the use of fabrication tools such as pipe threaders, welders, saws, and grinders.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Experience with welding techniques (TIG, MIG, Stick) and knowledge of pipe fitting.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and mechanical codes (e.g., ASME, OSHA).
- Good physical condition with ability to lift heavy materials and work in various positions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in welding or pipefitting.
- OSHA 10/30 or other relevant safety certifications.
- Experience in prefabrication shop environments.
