Under direct supervision, the Circulation Assistant serves patrons at the circulation desk and processes circulating materials.
- Assists patrons with library card accounts and resolves account disputes

Proactively provides customer service by assisting patrons with the Public Access Catalog (PAC), checking-out, self check-outs, copiers, printers, scanners, fax machines and locating or retrieving materials accurately and efficiently

Answers questions and assists patrons in the use of library resources at various service points including phones and pick-up window

Receives and shelves materials with accuracy and timeliness

Checks in and sorts returned materials accurately and efficiently

Receives, retrieves, and processes items for both incoming and outgoing delivery

Processes various reports, as assigned

Maintains shelves throughout location, including shelf reading, shifting material, merchandising items, and straightening items or shelves

Prepares location for opening and closing by straightening furniture and shelves, re-shelving loose materials, restocking displays and picking up debris

Performs duties of Circulation Aide, as needed
- High school diploma or GED

A minimum of one (1) year of paid work or equivalent volunteer/internship experience

Ability to pass alphanumeric sorting test

Ability to pass computer skills test
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment in handling information and records

Ability to work accurately with attention to detail

Ability to address and resolve patron conflicts equitably

Ability to retain and follow circulation department policies and procedures

Proficient in the use of the Integrated Library System (ILS)

Ability to meet circulation department standards for shelving and sorting
- Ability to sit and use computer for extended periods and operate standard office equipment, daily

Ability to lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds, daily

Ability to push book trucks with up to 150 pounds of materials on them, daily

Ability to stand for extended periods, daily

Ability to perform repeated reaching, bending, climbing and squatting, daily
- Sunday (every 3rd): 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
