Circulation Services Coordinator

Summary

Chapel Hill Public Library is hiring a Circulation Services Coordinator for our Adult Services division.

The Circulation Services Coordinator supports the mission of Chapel Hill Public Library by coordinating borrowing services, patron accounts, and stacks maintenance.

Essential Functions

What you can expect to be doing (Essential Functions):

  • Model outstanding, knowledgeable customer service.
  • Be friendly, helpful, responsive, and engaged.
  • Contribute to a welcoming, comfortable, environment.
  • Coordinate, develop and deploy useful, usable, and efficient circulation and borrowing processes.
  • Compile and analyze circulation data, draft reports, and make recommendations as directed, with a goal of continual improvement.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with circulation systems vendors, other Town supervisors, and local library peers.
  • Monitor trends and best practices in public library circulation procedures and stacks maintenance.
  • Assist with shift scheduling, operations management, and staff supervision.
  • Contribute to the hiring, training, and development of a friendly, flexible, customer-focused staff.
  • Contribute to Library Management Team by collaborating administration and managers to achieve strategic goals.
  • Serve on Town-wide teams or initiatives as directed.
  • Coordinate maintenance of library vehicles.
  • Lead library projects and initiatives, including but not limited to the volunteer program.
  • Complete other tasks as required.

This position requires supervising and monitoring the performance of other employees.

What are the physical demands?

This work is performed sitting, standing, walking, squatting, reaching, pushing, and bending. It requires a high degree of dexterity. It requires lifting 10-15 pounds.

Where and how do you work?

This work is usually performed inside a busy public library and in an office setting. Requires some weekend and evening hours.


Minimum Qualifications

What do you need to know to do this job effectively?

Knowledge of:

  • Town and Library policies and procedures
  • Integrated Library Systems (ILS).
  • Project management techniques.
  • Grant writing and administration.
  • User Centered design theories.
  • General Office computing systems and technology

Ability to:

  • Positively interact with a diverse clientele.
  • Interpret and communicate library policies and procedures.
  • Execute projects and meet deadlines.
  • Use web-based software systems
  • Use Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or similar tools
  • Solve problems and make sound decisions
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Model behavior that is consistent with our values of RESPECT

What is education and/or experience do you need to be considered for this job?

Education:

A Master of Library Science (MLS) or equivalent combination of training and experience required.

Experience:

A minimum 3 years of experience in a customer service environment required. Experience supervising a team or department preferred.
