The Africa Business Unit manages four operations in Ghana, Tanzania, and Guinea, producing more than 1.1 Moz per year. The Business Unit is seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join its Project Department.
The Opportunity
The role reports to the Lead: Engineering, Design and Integration in ABU. The incumbent will be part of a small but dynamic team
of engineering specialists involved in projects executed at various sites across Africa. The Civil Engineer is accountable for the
studies, design, costing, documentation and delivery management / oversight of earthworks, drainage, roads, fluid storage,
concrete works, concrete and steel structures, as well as buildings and infrastructure in general.
Accountabilities:
- Investigate and analyse opportunities in existing and planned plant and facilities, together with peers in a
multidisciplinary environment. - Develop concept solutions and resolutions to opportunities and threats.
- Evaluate and recommend best solutions based on business requirements, budget constraints and technical
considerations. - Progress earthworks, concrete works, structural steel works and to an extent infrastructure and services reticulation through the levels of design required by project scope, with or without EPCM involvement.
- Scope and specification of EPCM and / or contractor work.
- Manage work execution on the correct level.
- To professionally approve and endorse final deliverables.
- Effectively communicate with various stakeholders.
- Co-ordinate and progress track activities within the discipline.
- Guide and develop junior colleagues.
About You

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (4 years preferably).
Registration as a Professional Engineer with an internationally/Locally recognised professional body Is a
prerequisite.
EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of 7 years experience in projects, designs and construction in mining or related environment.
- Experience in Project Execution and Management
- Experience in HSE Management
- Experience in QA/QC Management
SKILLS
- Must be able to perform and/or verify structural calculations – steel and concrete.
- Must be able to design/analyse earthworks working drawings
- Must have a reasonable level of proficiency in MS Office, document management, project management,engineering and draughting software (Prota-structure, Auto-Cad, Navisworks, Bentley, etc.)
The following will be advantageous:
- Formal project management education.
Hands on experience in multi-dimensional modelling / draughting, GIS software.
