Technical knowledge

Surveyor Level 1

Conversant with relevant inspection techniques
Able to carry out inspection according to pre-defined Quality Plan using established inspection procedures
Able to interpret inspection results

Surveyor Level 2

Fully conversant with relevant inspection techniques and able to select the most appropriate inspection technique
Able to verify and approve Non-conformities / corrective actions
Able to identify required Bureau Veritas interventions, based on a pre-defined Quality Plan and according to specified standards
Able to review / appraise inspection procedures
Able to manages one or more level 1 surveyors

Surveyor Level 3

Fully conversant with key standards and inspection procedures applicable for the concerned field (able to select most appropriate reference standard / inspection criteria)
Acts as a recognised expert in the relevant area
Able to design and deliver training modules for Level 1 and 2 surveyors
Able to verify and establish Quality Plan or Inspection Testing Plan

Experience

Level 1: engineering degree with min. 3 years experience .

Level 2: engineering degree with min. 6 years

Level 3: engineering degree with min. 10 years experience .

For all levels experience in well-known companies is a must.

Responsibilities / Authorities / Accountabilities

Primary Functions

The surveyor (inspector) performs quality inspection (may be called surveys, monitoring or examination) of equipment, products, installations, etc., to determine their conformity with specified reference requirements (standards, specifications, regulation, etc.).

A surveyor usually carries out some tasks independently, with minimum supervision, and these may be on well-identified, or isolated assets, or on complex installations. The surveyor may act in any field of the relevant Division.

Three levels of surveyor have been identified, depending on the surveyor’s technical level, qualifications, level of initiative, responsibility and supervision.

Technical Expertise

Review of applicable contractual requirements (technical standards, specifications etc.)
Definition and review of Quality Plan and relevant procedures.
Review and validation of inspection assignment documentation (technical aspects, reference documentation, schedule, milestones, reporting, logistics, co-ordination procedure, etc.)
Definition of Bureau Veritas interventions
Selection of the most appropriate inspection techniques
Execution or supervision of inspection according to pre-defined Quality Plan, and to the established inspection procedures / techniques
Execution of inspection reporting including treatment of Non-conformities (NCR’s) and other applicable deliverables

Business Requirements

HSE Requirements

Comply at all times with all applicable legal requirements, BV Abu Dhabi HSE Policies and procedures, client’s HSE procedures and code of practices.
Maintain personal work areas tidy and hazard free and report any deviation/fault/hazard immediately to the location manager/line manager/supervisor
Report immediately any newly identified hazard and participate in devising suitable operational control to eliminate/minimize the pertinent risk.
Report immediately any HSE incident and cooperate in investigation
Use appropriate PPE at work area and be aware of:

the risks appropriate PPE will control or minimize
Report immediately incase the PPE is worn off or lost.

Communicate to their immediate manager any unsafe work practice or condition and opportunities for improvement of HSE practices.
Take care of your own health and safety and that of people who may be affected by what you do (or do not do).
Co-operate with others on health and safety, and not interfere with, or misuse, anything provided for your health, safety or welfare.
