Civil Structural Engineer - O/G Stations

Responsibilities:

  • Validate the structural design provided by the D&B contractor, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Review and assess structural reports, drawings, and specifications submitted by the D&B contractor.
  • Review structural analysis and provide recommendations for the design and construction of elevated stations.
  • Identify and mitigate structural risks, providing advice on potential opportunities and threats.
  • Provide regular progress reports to the client and internal stakeholders, highlighting any structural risks and any mitigation measures to be proposed.
  • Address any stakeholder concerns regarding the structural integrity or progress of the project in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ensure the provision of all necessary structural data to the Contract Administration Senior Manager.
  • Provide technical support during the construction supervision phase, addressing any structural issues that arise.
  • Work closely with the required departments to ensure compliance with any legal, financial, and corporate protocols.
  • Prepare and deliver structural presentations as required.
  • Drive progression via coordination meetings, ensuring all structural obligations are met.
  • Liaise with external consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with structural requirements.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and project team members on structural matters.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A master s degree is preferred.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) status preferred.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 7-10 years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on overground railway stations or similar large-scale transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with railway-specific design standards and safety requirements related to overground stations, including structures such as platforms, access points, and station buildings.
  • Previous involvement in Project Management Consultancy (PMC) and railway projects is required would be a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of structural principles, construction contracts, and industry standards.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple stakeholders effectively.
  • Prior experience within a transportation or a rail project involving multiple contractors would be favourable.
  • Strong emphasis for experience in working on over-the-ground railway/metro/transport stations structures.
  • Extensive experience with structural design and analysis tools (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD Pro) or equivalent and understanding of steel fabrication processes.
  • Proven experience with steel facade design, including understanding the integration of architecture and engineering in complex building facades.
  • Experience with iconic or complex steel structures and facades for large-scale projects, particularly in the railway sector.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong technical expertise in the design and analysis of steel structures and facades, with the ability to solve complex engineering challenges.
  • Excellent project management and coordination skills, including experience overseeing the work of contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities, with experience in mentoring and leading a team of engineers.
  • In-depth knowledge of international design codes, local standards, and best practices in steel structure and facade design.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain quality standards in a fast-paced environment.
