Claims Manager

The Role

Lead and manage a portfolio of complex reinsurance claims (treaty and facultative), ensuring timely notification, accurate coverage analysis, and proactive resolution strategies.

Act as the primary liaison between cedants, reinsurers, brokers, and internal stakeholders to drive efficient communication and secure optimal claim recoveries.

Review and interpret reinsurance contracts (including London Market and international placements) to provide clear, defensible coverage positions and strategic guidance to clients.

Negotiate claim settlements with reinsurers, escalating contentious matters where necessary and supporting dispute resolution processes.

Monitor and report on claim developments, recoveries, and reserves, providing insightful analysis and recommendations to senior management and clients.

Identify trends, systemic issues, and process improvement opportunities to enhance claims performance and strengthen client service delivery.

Mentor and support junior team members, contributing to technical development and fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.

Responsibilities Qualifications

The Requirements

5+ years of progressive experience in insurance or reinsurance claims, including handling complex or high-value losses

Working knowledge of reinsurance principles and contract structures (e.g., treaty and facultative)

Ability to review and interpret policy and reinsurance contract language

Experience analyzing claim files, loss data, and financial information with strong attention to detail

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple claims and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with brokers, reinsurers, underwriters, actuaries, and legal partners

Experience providing guidance, oversight, or informal leadership to claims professionals or cross-functional teams

Bachelor's degree in business, risk management, finance, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
