JOB TITLE: Shuttle Driver
DEPARTMENT: Operations

SHIFT: Monday-Friday, (7pm-5am)
PAY: $36.00/hr, ~93,000 annually
REPORTS TO: Service Center Manager

Are you an experienced CDL driver with an expert level ability to maneuver tractor-trailers and straight trucks in tight spaces and difficult driving conditions? If yes, then our Shuttle Driver position is the perfect fit for you! CrossCountry Freight Solutions is a leader in the LTL industry, and we are looking for a Shuttle Driver to join our dedicated team.

The Shuttle Driver is a hybrid role responsible for moving trailers and equipment both on Company property (approximately 85% of time) and to off-site locations via short-haul shuttle runs (approximately 15% of time). Primary duties include picking up and dropping off trailers at customer locations, intermodal facilities, drop yards, and partner carrier sites, as well as spotting and repositioning trailers within the service center yard to support loading and unloading operations. This position may also serve as a backup for delivery routes as operational needs require. The Shuttle Driver will be required to maintain records by retaining load-related paperwork in compliance with DOT guidelines.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Operates a tractor-trailer combination in a safe and legal manner both on Company property (approximately 85% of time) and on public roadways for off-site shuttle runs (approximately 15% of time).
  • Hook and unhook various commercial combinations, to manually lower and raise landing gear, operates fifth wheel release levers, lock and release pintle-hooks, attach and release safety chains, open and close cargo doors, climb into and out of vehicles, and fuels and check oil/coolant levels of vehicles.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain driving records required to comply with State and Federal regulations.
  • Determine optimal method for loading freight to minimize damage and maximize trailer capacity; secure cargo within the vehicle to avoid damage.
  • Pick up and drop off trailers at customer facilities, drop yards, intermodal/rail locations, and partner carrier terminals as dispatched; obtain required paperwork (BOLs, interchange receipts) at each stop and return completed documents to the service center.
  • Spot and reposition trailers within the service center yard to ensure proper dock door alignment and support timely loading/unloading operations.
  • May serve as a backup driver delivery routes as operationally required; ability to sort and deliver freight to multiple stops is expected in this capacity.
  • Communicate trailer status, yard positions, and any equipment defects or delays to dispatch and the Service Center Manager in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations regarding safety and hazardous materials.
  • Clean and maintain the interior and exterior of vehicles according to Company vehicle standards.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class A CDL
  • At least 21 years of age
  • 1 year of commercial driving experience
  • No DUI’s or DWI’s (in the past 3 years)
  • No more than 3 traffic violations (in past 3 years)
  • Must have Hazmat and Tanker endorsements or be willing to obtain - renewals reimbursable
  • Must be able to expertly maneuver a straight truck or tractor-trailer in difficult driving conditions.
  • Previous freight handling, forklift, and electric pallet jack experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to frequently enter and exit the cab of a commercial vehicle.
  • Must be able to safely maneuver freight/pallets weighing up to 2,500 pounds onto a dolly or cart with a force of up to 130 pounds with mechanical aid in various environments/conditions.
  • Must be able to carry freight weighing up to 40 pounds for a distance of up to 20 feet.
  • Must be able to hook and unhook various commercial combinations, to manually lower and raise landing gear, to operate fifth wheel release levers, to lock and release pintle-hooks, to attach and release safety chains, to open and close cargo doors, to climb into and out of vehicles, and to fuel and check oil/coolant levels of vehicles.
