Key Responsibilities and Duties
Education and Curriculum
Develop and implement a daily, age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans that promote language, motor, social, and cognitive development through play, art, music, and other interactive activities.
- Create a stimulating and organised classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and discovery.
- Establish and maintain a consistent daily routine that includes periods for learning, outdoor play, meals, naps/rest time, and personal care.
- Teach basic concepts and skills, such as identifying colors, shapes, numbers, and early social behaviours.
Child Care and Safety
- Directly supervise children at all times to ensure their safety inside the classroom, on the playground, and during transitions.
- Oversee and coordinate personal care and hygiene, including diapering/toilet training, feeding, and comforting children.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and maintain a clean, neat, and sanitary classroom.
- Administer first aid or CPR in the event of an emergency (with current certification).
- Implement positive guidance techniques to support children's development of self-regulation and appropriate social behaviors.
Observation and Communication
- Observe and assess each child's development, maintaining accurate and current records of their progress, milestones, and daily activities.
- Maintain open and cooperative communication with parents/guardians through daily reports, written notes, and formal or informal conferences regarding their child's daily routine, progress, and any concerns.
- Identify early signs of developmental delays or emotional/behavioral problems and report them to the program administrator and parents.
- Collaborate with co-teachers and staff to ensure continuity of care and a cohesive team approach to early childhood education.
Professional and Administrative
Supervise, mentor, and direct the activities of any assigned assistant teachers or volunteers.
- Participate in mandatory professional development and training sessions to stay current with best practices.
- Attend all required staff meetings, events, and parent-teacher meetings.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
Required Education
- Cache 3 or relevant qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience working with toddlers (ages 1-3) in a licensed childcare or educational setting is typically required or strongly preferred.
