Position: Cleaner / Steward (Restaurant company)
Salary: SAR 1,500 with FREE shared room, transportation, and 1 duty meal
Job Role: We are seeking a reliable, hardworking, and hygiene-conscious Kitchen Steward to support the daily operations of our restaurant by maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and organisation throughout the kitchen and back-of-house areas. This role is fundamental to the smooth and safe running of the kitchen, and the ideal candidate will take pride in their work, demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility, and be committed to upholding the establishment's operational and hygiene standards at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dishwashing & Utensil Sanitation: Operate and maintain commercial dishwashing equipment to clean, sanitise, and organise all crockery, glassware, cutlery, cookware, and kitchen utensils efficiently throughout and after each service. Ensure all items are thoroughly cleaned, dried, and returned to their designated storage locations in a timely manner to support uninterrupted kitchen operations.
- Kitchen Cleaning & Deep Sanitation: Carry out regular and thorough cleaning of all kitchen surfaces, including countertops, cooking stations, floors, walls, and ceiling vents. Perform scheduled deep-cleaning tasks on kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, fryers, refrigerators, and extraction hoods in accordance with the establishment's cleaning rota and hygiene standards.
- Waste Management & Disposal: Manage the correct sorting, bagging, and disposal of all kitchen waste and refuse throughout the shift, ensuring bins are emptied regularly and never allowed to overflow. Adhere to the restaurant's waste segregation procedures, including the separation of food waste, recyclables, and general refuse, while maintaining cleanliness around all waste areas.
- Back-of-House Organisation & Storage Support: Assist in maintaining an orderly and well-organised back-of-house environment, including dry stores, refrigeration units, cleaning supply areas, and equipment storage. Ensure all cleaned items are correctly stored and accessible to the kitchen team, and report any damaged, broken, or missing equipment to the relevant supervisor promptly.
- Cleaning Chemical Handling & Safety Compliance: Handle all cleaning agents, chemicals, and detergents in accordance with COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) guidelines and the manufacturer's instructions. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, and store all cleaning materials safely and correctly in designated areas away from food preparation zones.
- Support to the Kitchen Team During Service: Provide responsive support to the kitchen team throughout service periods by rapidly clearing and cleaning workstations, replenishing supplies of clean equipment, and ensuring a continuous flow of sanitised items to all sections. Respond promptly to requests from chefs and senior kitchen staff, maintaining a cooperative and solutions-focused approach at all times.
- End-of-Day Closure & Post-Service Cleaning: Complete all end-of-service and end-of-day cleaning duties to the required standard before closing the kitchen, including mopping floors, wiping down all surfaces, cleaning equipment, and securing waste storage areas. Ensure the kitchen is left in a clean, safe, and ready condition for the following day's operations, completing all tasks as outlined on the daily cleaning checklist.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education & Food Hygiene Certification: A basic level of education is required, with the ability to read and follow written cleaning instructions, schedules, and safety notices. A valid Food Hygiene certificate (Level 1 or equivalent) is preferred and will be considered a strong advantage. Candidates without a current certification may be required to complete accredited food safety and hygiene training upon joining.
- Prior Experience in a Kitchen or Cleaning Role: Previous experience working as a kitchen steward, dishwasher, or cleaner in a restaurant, hotel, or catering environment is preferred, though not strictly required for motivated candidates. Familiarity with commercial dishwashing machines, cleaning equipment, and back-of-house operations will be considered a significant advantage.
- Physical Fitness, Reliability & Work Ethic: The candidate must be physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks that require standing for extended periods, lifting heavy items, and working in a hot and fast-paced kitchen environment. Punctuality, reliability, and a strong work ethic are essential. A positive, team-oriented attitude and a genuine commitment to maintaining cleanliness and hygiene are non-negotiable requirements for this role.
Pay: QAR1,500.00 per month
