Clinical Assistant

Job Summary:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Provides clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers and care teams by coordinating patient flow, assisting with documentation, and helping ensure efficient, high‑quality patient care.

Job Duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports efficient patient flow by rooming patients, preparing charts, and coordinating movement through the clinic.
  • Assists with referrals, prior authorizations, scheduling, and continuity‑of‑care activities.
  • Communicates with patients regarding appointments, instructions, and follow‑up needs via phone, electronic messages, and in person.
  • Accurately documents patient interactions, referrals, calls, and scheduling activities in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Ensures accuracy in transcription, data entry, and clinical documentation.
  • Maintains complete and truthful records in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates professional, empathetic communication with patients, families, and care team members.
  • Responds promptly to routine questions and appropriately escalates clinical concerns to licensed staff.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment; reports equipment issues and replenishes supplies as needed.
  • Performs additional clinical or administrative tasks as assigned after appropriate training and competency validation.
  • Other duties as assigned.


LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Performs routine clinical and administrative tasks under the direction of licensed providers and nursing staff, using limited independent judgment and following established protocols.
  • Recognizes when issues require escalation and seeks guidance appropriately.
  • Accountable for accuracy, compliance, and supporting safe, efficient patient care
Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); no exceptions.
  • At least one (1) year of clinical experience required, two (2) years preferred.
  • Completion of a clinical, medical, or nursing assistant training program or additional clinical certifications (e.g., phlebotomy, EKG, POC testing) preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and or/move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision requirements for this job include color vision, distant vision, close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to correct/adjust focus.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • May be required to possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within sixty (60) days of hire and maintain throughout employment.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
  • Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation adjudication for childcare.
  • Adheres to all organizational policies, including confidentiality, privacy, and HIPAA requirements.
