Position Details

Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
This is a non-tenure track,12-month faculty librarian position that provides professional information and instructional services to meet the teaching, learning, and research needs of students, faculty, and other affiliated users at the Health Professions Building (HPB) and College of Health Sciences (COHS).

Anticipated Subject Liaison Departments: Human Sciences – Dietetics, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies & Athletic Training, and the School of Nursing.

Characteristics Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaches classes and workshops that integrate evidence-based practice, health literacy, and new technologies into the HPB learning environment. Designs, implements and assesses online guides (LibGuides), web-based tutorials, and other relevant instructional materials that enhance research and reference skills and facilitate access to library resources and collections. Provides reference and in-depth research consultations. Works with library patrons in locating and interpreting library resources across academic disciplines. Maintains a general working knowledge of available library resources across the disciplines, and an awareness of relevant library policies, procedures, and practices. Participates in building and maintaining the library’s collections in support of curriculum, research, and accreditation needs for designated subject disciplines. Conducts regular assessments, monitors usage statistics, and makes recommendations to leadership on changes to the collection. Actively engages with relevant stakeholders and identifies ways in which library services and resources could further support the mission and vision of the liaison departments and COHS. Works with other public services personnel to provide coordinated circulation and access services. May supervise student employees or provide on-site supervision for an access services staff employee. Participates in continuing education activities to maintain or develop skills that enhance the performance of position responsibilities. Participates in professional activities, professional development, scholarly research, publication, and service activities as outlined in Academic Policy Statement 890301, Hiring, Evaluation, Promotion, and Merit for Non-Tenure Track Faculty. Performs other duties as required in the usual course of the job.

Educational Requirements for the Position
Master’s degree in library/information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) is required. Degree or significant coursework in the relevant subject liaison area(s) is desired.

Experience Required for the Position
Experience working in an academic, health sciences, medical, or hospital library is desired.

Other Requirements for the Position
This position is primarily located in the new Health Professions Building (HPB) in Conroe, TX, and the librarian is expected to travel periodically to the university’s Woodlands Center and the Huntsville campus.
