General Summary
Under limited supervision, the RN Clinical Coordinator assures effective, high-quality patient care encompassing multiple responsibilities including, but not limited to, the management of nursing practice and patient care delivery, compliance with regulatory and professional standards, management of human, fiscal, and other resources, supporting strategic and interdisciplinary planning, and maintaining collaborative relationships within area of responsibility, and the UMMS system as a whole. Performs all duties and responsibilities of a Registered Nurse. Patients served include infant through older adult.

Job Responsibilities
Assumes administrative responsibility for specified aspects of unit operations, as assigned by the nursing leader.

Ensures efficiency and consistency of unit operations through implementation and monitoring of departmental policies and standard operating procedures.

Supports administrative perspective when interpreting policy decisions to staff.

Represents unit on standing and/or ad hoc committees, as assigned.

Serves on unit or service-based management teams, representing both staff and managerial interests in this capacity.

Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and objectives.

Recommends changes and improvements to operations and prepares justification of same.

Participates in the review and/or revision of unit standards to include policies, procedures, protocols and standard operating procedures.

Assumes responsibility for Human Resources functions, as assigned.
- Participates in or oversees staffing and scheduling of designated personnel.

Ensures that staffing requirements are met, preemptively addressing instances of under and over-staffing.

Monitors productivity; identifies opportunities for improvement to include ways to reduce agency, OT costs, etc.

Recommends personnel for hiring; initiates discipline and termination following collaboration with and approval of leader.

Completes performance reviews on designated personnel.

Actively participates in recruitment and retention activities for the designated area.

Coordinates orientation, in-services and continuing education activities as assigned.

Participates in planning for unit educational activities, based on identified services/quality problems, expected changes in services provided, and regulatory requirements.

Ensures material resources are adequate to meet the needs of designated patient population.

Establishes and oversees mechanisms and personnel needed for routine supplies and equipment repair and maintenance.

Troubleshoots when routine mechanisms fail, crossing interdepartmental lines to resolve service issues.

Identifies alternatives that represent an improvement to existing supplies and equipment.

Participates in and/or provides significant input into the budgeting process for supplies and capital equipment.

Monitors utilization and cost of supplies; enforces charging mechanisms on unit/area of responsibility

Ensures high levels of patient satisfaction and high-quality of patient care.

Addresses patient complaints and concerns in a proactive manner, seeking to

Resolve service issues ‘real time’ whenever possible.

Handles patient and family complaints in accordance with established policies for a designated area of responsibility.

Suggests areas for performance improvement activities.

Participates in and leads intra and interdepartmental problem-solving to address service and quality issues.

Serves as interdepartmental liaison as assigned.
Work Experience
Qualifications
-
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing education program approved by the Board of Nursing or found by the Board to be substantially equivalent to the programs in Maryland required.
- Current Maryland RN license required. BLS required.

Completion of a refresher course within 6 months if nursing practice has not occurred within the past 5 years. Specialty certification preferred.
Skills and Abilities

At least 2 years of OR experience.

Charge nurse and coordinator experience strongly preferred.

Must meet all unit specific certification requirements such as PALS, ACLS, NRP.

Maintains Clinical Nurse II core expectations.
- Ability to learn and use computer systems in order to manage patient information.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.

Pay Range: $43.85 - $58.55
