Clinical Evidence Based Practice Informatics and Data Analyst

Job Summary:

The Clinical Evidence Based Practice Informatics and Data Analyst plays a critical role in bridging clinical operations and data analytics. They perform their duties under the direction of the Director of Clinical Informatics. They utilize knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for inpatient clinical applications. This position is responsible for analyzing healthcare quality data, optimizing clinical workflows, supporting electronic health record (EHR) systems, and delivering actionable insights to improve patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. They consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, compliance, and impact on clinical practice during the planning and execution of their duties. This position uses the following tools to accomplish informatics goals: Project Management methodology, workflow documentation and analysis, change management methods, organizational and interpersonal communications. The Clinical Evidence Based Informaticist serves as the organizational subject-matter expert for the design, build, optimization, and lifecycle management of evidence-based order sets within the Epic EHR. This role bridges clinical practice, informatics, and evidence-based decision support to ensure order sets meet regulatory standards, reduce cognitive burden, support clinical workflows, and promote safe, high-quality patient care across Forrest Health. The specialist works collaboratively with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, quality, and IT to align order sets with clinical pathways, accreditation requirements, and organizational priorities. This position plays a key role in Epic governance, change control, and clinical standardization initiatives.

Performance Expectations:

  • Analyze clinical and operational data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations using tools such as Smartsheet, Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, IT staff, and administrators to optimize EHR workflows and data capture.
  • Support data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes for clinical databases.
  • Ensure data integrity, quality, and compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of clinical decision support tools.
  • Translate clinical requirements into technical specifications for data reporting and analytics.
  • Provide training and support to clinical staff on informatics tools and data literacy when needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of informatics interventions on clinical outcomes.

Order Set Development & Maintenance:

  • Lead the end-to-end lifecycle management of Epic order sets, including design, build, testing, deployment, and ongoing optimization.
  • Translate clinical best practices, regulatory requirements, and organizational protocols into structured, evidence-based order sets.
  • Ensure naming conventions, metadata, linked orders, and decision support components follow system standards.
  • Monitor and maintain versioning, retirement, and sunset processes.
  • Partner with Pharmacy Informatics on medication-related content.

Clinical Governance & Change Control:

  • Serve as a core member of the Order Set Governance Committee.
  • Facilitate provider-requested enhancements and ensure alignment with evidence-based practice.
  • Conduct impact analyses and present governance recommendations.

Epic Build & Technical Expertise:

  • Build and maintain order sets, SmartGroups, SmartSets, and decision-support rules in Epic.
  • Collaborate with Epic analysts to ensure technical stability.
  • Perform structured testing and support go-live validation.

Evidence-Based Practice & Clinical Quality Alignment:

  • Review literature and specialty-specific guidelines for clinical accuracy.
  • Align order sets with care pathways and quality metrics.
  • Support initiatives such as sepsis, anticoagulation, ED throughput, and critical care standardization.

Training, Communication & Change Adoption:

  • Create provider-facing educational materials and tip sheets.
  • Communicate implementation timelines and change impacts.
  • Provide consultative support to clinicians regarding workflows and optimization.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Informatics, Nursing Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Education, or related clinical field.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical acute-care experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical informatics, Epic content build, or EHR optimization experience.
  • Epic Order Set certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based practice and interdisciplinary workflows

Relevant Experience:

  • Experience in multi-hospital or integrated delivery systems.
  • Prior involvement in governance, clinical standardization, or QI initiatives.
  • Familiarity with TJC, CMS, and other regulatory requirements.
