The Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) will work with the Ophthalmology and Urology departments to devise solutions that meet the reporting and analytical needs of the local community of UC Davis Ophthalmology and Urology clinical researchers. They will support clinical research projects by extracting complex datasets from Epic’s relational databases as well as other nonproprietary relational databases. The CIS will perform all tasks associated with these data retrieval projects including requirements gathering, data retrieval, curation, validation, secure data delivery and accounting of disclosures. The Clinical Informatics Specialist will also participate in evaluating and enhancing analytics tools and improving data provisioning processes. Protection of Personal Health Information (PHI) in line with HIPAA standards which may include de-identification of data, are imperative to the role. Work and decisions are reviewed in terms of meeting objectives when performed within the accepted parameters of UCD/UCDH policies and procedures and the general guidelines of the department. The CIS will adhere to Enterprise Analytics and Data Services (EADS) best practices, including those outlined in the Cogito Tools Playbook, and proactively share assets and methodologies with other EADS teams to support enterprise-wide development of high-quality, reusable analytics across UC Davis Health. The CIS will coordinate with team members, contribute to project design, develop and manage timelines for deliverables, and provide both incremental and final documentation as required.
The incumbent will architect and support data pipelines integrating sources such as RedCAP. Responsibilities include PACS image extraction and data de-identification using AIR. Advanced knowledge of metadata tagging standards and automated quality-control process development is essential.

Department Overview
The Enterprise Analytics and Data Services (EADS) is a compilation of data assets, software tools, and analytics support resources available at UC Davis Health to optimize access to and facilitate the most effective use of data. The Data Access and Delivery Team (DADT), part of EADS, includes analysts specializing in business intelligence, data quality and documentation, and multiple SQL developers with broad expertise in EHR-derived health data and research data retrieval. Members of the DADT are guided by best practices and standard operating procedures created by HDOC subcommittees, Process Improvement Teams in the DCOE, and DCOE leadership to ensure efficient, high-quality data asset generation and provisioning. The Research Data Fulfillment resides in the DADT and provisions data for research studies.
