Clinical Instructor, Nursing Lab Simulation Coordinator- Lake Campus

The full-time Faculty/Lab Simulation Coordinator supports the Lake Campus Nursing program with didactic, laboratory and clinical instruction. This position provides hands-on classroom instruction and lab/clinical skills development of undergraduate nursing students. This full-time position provides structured skills practice, remediation, competency evaluation, and student support, aligned with program outcomes and accreditation standards of the program. This position collaborates closely with the Director of BSN Program Lake Campus and peer course faculty to ensure a high-quality, safe, and student-centered learning environment in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in Nursing discipline or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a practicing RN.
  • Must have an unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in State of Ohio by the start date.
  • Basic Life Support/CPR by start date is required. Must be able to meet State of Ohio Board of Nursing requirements.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and commitment to student success.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently within a fast-paced clinical education environment.
  • Experience serving on college and/or university committees or other professional organizations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching.
  • Ability to organize and manage a group of nursing students to meet the course objectives and maximize student learning outcomes.
  • Knowledgeable in course management software and classroom instruction to meet the academic needs of students.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience providing direct patient care in a hospital, clinic, outpatient, community, or office setting.
  • Strong communication skills.
Essential Functions and percent of time:
70% – Nursing Lab & Simulation
  • In conjunction with faculty, this position will develop, implement, and evaluate simulated lab experiences for nursing students. This includes all levels of simulation consisting of computerized simulation, low-fidelity/task trainers, and human patient simulators. This individual is responsible for the organization and preparation of the simulation lab working with faculty to develop simulation scenarios, operation of simulation equipment with the ability to follow medical aspects of the scenario, and operation of all supporting computer and audio-video recording systems.
  • Will involve developing the learning materials by writing or selecting a blend of learning materials to enhance the delivery of the simulation experiences.
  • Provide instruction support in the laboratory setting which includes teaching basic, intermediate, and advanced level nursing skills. Provides direction for faculty and students.
  • Facilitate a positive, collaborative, and inclusive lab learning environment that reinforces professionalism, accountability, and integrity.
  • Lead open lab practice sessions to reinforce foundational skills taught in nursing courses.
  • Provide individualized remediation, targeted coaching, and guided practice for students requiring additional support.
  • Demonstrate and evaluate clinical skills using evidence-based techniques and competency rubrics.
  • Conduct formal skills check-offs and document outcomes according to program standards. Maintain accurate, timely documentation of student performance, remediation hours, and competency outcomes.·
    Maintain consistent alignment with the practice–theory relationship and integrate current research into skills instruction.
  • Meet with faculty on a regular basis to discuss technology and simulation needs for future classes.
  • Oversees maintenance of simulation mannequins and computer technology equipment for simulation. Initiates processes for ensuring repairs. Orders supplies.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and fully functional learning space.
  • General oversight and management of all aspects of the NSLRC.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety, OSHA, and infection-control standards during all lab sessions.
  • Support accreditation and compliance efforts by contributing to required reporting and quality-improvement documentation.
  • Communicate with the Dayton Campus NSLRC lab and simulator coordinators to collaborate on simulation best practices and to enhance congruency of simulation experiences between campuses.

30% – Classroom Instruction/Support
  • Utilize active learning/teaching strategies to enhance student understanding of difficult concepts in courses assigned including didactic, laboratory, and off-campus clinical instruction.
  • Work with teams to provide and improve course implementation.
  • Serve as a clinical/professional role model in all interactions with BSN students.
  • Facilitate a positive, collaborative learning environment for students including valuing diversity, integrity, accountability, ethics and professional behaviors.
  • Maintain appropriate professional certifications and licenses as applicable.
  • Understand and commit to the Wright State University nursing program mission and conceptual framework.
  • Actively mentor and support students throughout the BSN curricula as assigned, including supervising independent studies or honors projects.
  • Actively mentor, tutor, and support pre-nursing students with prerequisite/support coursework understanding, including but not limited to Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, and Microbiology courses.
