Team Impact
Performs medical laboratory tests and analyses to provide data for diagnosis and treatment of patients. These tests are associated with biochemical, blood banking, hematological, microbiological, and urinalysis procedures. May supervise 2-3 support staff.

Responsibilities
Conducts a variety of testing procedures on patient specimen samples according to physician orders and analyzes test results to determine the presence of normal and abnormal components. Utilizes the laboratory information system to report all test results in accordance with NYSDOH requirements. Follows Standard Precautions and adheres to hospital and departmental safety policies and regulations.
Demonstrates effective problem solving and team building skills. Teaches and orients technical staff regarding standard operating procedures (SOP’S).
Conducts quality control (QC) testing to ensure accuracy of clinical data, initiates SOP’S when QC is out of limits, refers as indicated. Verifies and documents instrument function by monitoring and calibrating specific instruments. Participates in proficiency testing activities.
Performs and documents routine preventive maintenance (PM) on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure. Documents any repairs, replacements, and maintenance needs of instruments or equipment.
Consults supervisor/pathologist as required. Documents and notifies all “Critical Test Values” and “Call test values” to the appropriate floor /office and physician. This information is entered into the LIS in a precise and timely manner.
Evaluates current methodologies for accuracy and precision.
May perform phlebotomy related activities taking into account the patient’s special or age-related needs. Process patient specimens ensuring both proper identification and pre/post test handling requirements.
May evaluate and implement new laboratory procedures.
Education/Accredited Programs
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Medical/Clinical Laboratory Technology, OR BS in one of the biological, chemical , or physical sciences.; AND/OR meets all of the educational and experience requirements for a Clinical Laboratory Technologist according to Part 58 of 10NYCRR Subpart 58-1 Clinical Laboratories of the NYSDOH code.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations
Licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by the New York State Education Department is required.
American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) registration preferred.
Skills/Abilities
Ability to communicate verbally and interact with physicians, nurses, coworkers, and vendors regarding blood bank and tissue services.
Salary Range
The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $30.27 to $49.77 per hour. Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.
