Clinical Outcomes Research Coordinator

Job Description

The Department of Neurological Surgery has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Coordinator 1 to join their team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Research Coordination & Data Management — 60%

  • Identify and screen eligible patients for retrospective clinical research studies involving brain tumor and skull base surgery patients across UW Medicine sites.
  • Abstract, enter, clean, and maintain surgical and clinical outcomes data in REDCap and other approved data capture systems.
  • Coordinate data collection efforts across multiple surgeons and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and data integrity.
  • Assist with development, maintenance, and revision of research databases and data collection tools.
  • Prepare datasets and basic reports to support outcomes analysis and investigator review.
  • Perform data quality checks and assist with audits to ensure protocol adherence.

Regulatory & IRB Management — 20%

  • Assist with preparation, submission, and maintenance of IRB applications, amendments, continuing reviews, and closures.
  • Maintain required regulatory documents and study files in accordance with UW, sponsor, and federal requirements.
  • Track IRB approvals, deadlines, and required updates.
  • Support compliance with human subjects research policies and procedures.

Program & Departmental Support — 10%

  • Serve as a liaison between faculty investigators, clinical teams, and departmental research staff.
  • Participate in departmental research activities involving neurosurgery residents and fellows.
  • Assist with preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, and internal reports, as directed.
  • Support meetings, coordination activities, and other programmatic needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental research goals.

Other duties as assigned –10%

Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental research goals; including but not limited to working on other clinical research studies in the Department, assisting with lab moves and clean-up, and other research associated duties

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one year of relevant experience.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

A D DITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated experience with data collection, entry, and quality control in a clinical or research setting

  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy in data management

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

  • Sound judgment and ability to identify and appropriately escalate issues

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in a clinical space, such as operating rooms or other clinical spaces.

  • Must be able to obtain UW Medicine Operating Room clearance

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supporting clinical outcomes or retrospective research studies

  • Familiarity with REDCap or similar electronic data capture systems

  • Experience abstracting data from electronic medical records (e.g., Epic)

  • Experience with IRB submissions and regulatory processes, including amendments and continuing reviews

  • Exposure to neurosurgery, oncology, or other high-acuity clinical environments

  • Experience preparing datasets, reports, or research outputs (e.g., abstracts or presentations)

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$55,944.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$67,500.00 annual
