Job Purpose:
To provide advanced clinical pharmacy services aimed at optimizing the safe and effective use of medications. The Clinical Pharmacist applies evidence-based clinical knowledge to support physicians and healthcare teams in achieving the best possible therapeutic outcomes for patients, particularly in complex or specialized cases.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Services
Review medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, and therapeutic effectiveness based on patient-specific factors.
Provide clinical consultations to physicians and healthcare teams regarding optimal drug therapy, dose adjustments, and treatment alternatives.
Monitor patient progress, laboratory results, and clinical parameters to ensure safe and effective medication therapy.
Manage and evaluate high-risk or specialized medication therapies (e.g., antimicrobials, oncology, ICU, cardiology).
Participate in multidisciplinary rounds to provide real-time pharmacotherapy recommendations.
Identify, prevent, and manage adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and drug interactions.
2. Patient Safety & Education
Promote medication safety by implementing and monitoring safe-use policies and reporting medication incidents.
Educate patients and caregivers about their prescribed medications, ensuring understanding of usage, side effects, and adherence importance.
Contribute to discharge medication counseling to ensure continuity of care.
3. Research, Training, and Development
Participate in or lead clinical research projects, drug use evaluations, and quality improvement initiatives.
Provide lectures, workshops, and training sessions for pharmacy residents, students, and healthcare staff.
Stay updated with recent advances in pharmacotherapy and clinical guidelines.
4. Policy & Compliance
Contribute to the development and review of clinical protocols, treatment guidelines, and hospital formularies.
Ensure compliance with Ministry of Health (MOH), Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), and accreditation standards (e.g., CBAHI, JCI).
Maintain accurate documentation of all clinical interventions and patient care activities.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Master’s Degree in Clinical Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from a recognized and accredited university.
Valid license from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) as a Clinical Pharmacist.
Minimum 2 years of post-licensure hospital experience in a clinical pharmacy setting.
Proven expertise in pharmacotherapy, patient care, and clinical decision support.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Proficiency in English (Arabic is an advantage).
