Clinical Research Assistant 2

The Visual Impairment Research Lab at The Ohio State University College of Optometry conducts research on low vision rehabilitation, visual psychophysics, assistive technology, and accessibility. Our work focuses on improving the functional independence and quality of life of individuals with visual impairment and blindness.

We are seeking a part-time Research Assistant to support an ongoing project examining how individuals with low vision perceive and respond to pedestrian traffic signals. The ideal candidate will have existing familiarity with the project background and be ready to contribute to data collection, analysis, and dissemination with minimal ramp-up time.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with participant recruitment, scheduling, and data collection
  • Support field and laboratory components of the pedestrian signal study
  • Contribute to literature review, data organization, and analysis
  • Assist with the preparation of research reports, posters, and manuscripts
  • Maintain IRB compliance documentation and research records
  • Attend and contribute to regular lab meetings

**This is a Temporary position for a 1-year fixed-term, 15-20 hours per week.**

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Health Sciences or medical field, or equivalent combination of education experience required.
  • 0 years of relevant experience required.

Desired Experience:

  • Prior experience conducting human subjects research, including participant interaction
  • Familiarity with pedestrian safety, mobility, or accessibility topics as they relate to visual impairment
  • Experience with both field-based and laboratory research methods
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Hands-on experience with low vision research, including working with participants who have visual impairment
  • Prior involvement in an undergraduate thesis or independent research project on a related topic
  • Experience presenting research findings (e.g., conference posters or talks)
  • Familiarity with IRB protocols and human subjects research compliance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Pay Range: $17.50-$22.86

Salary will be based off of education, experience, internal equity, and budget allowance.
