Position Summary
This position will serve as a Clinical Research Coordinator within the Department of Dermatology. The Clinical Research Coordinator is responsible for the planning, organization, and conduct of multiple clinical research study protocols, including independently collecting and recording data, project administration, and communication with various stakeholders.
The mission of the UNC-CH Department of Dermatology is fourfold: to conduct clinical, pedagogical, research, and community service activities that benefit the populations of the local University and Triangle communities, state, region, and nation. The Department also functions as an integral unit of the UNC-CH School of Medicine and an active partner in the UNC Health Care System (HCS) in its patient care, teaching, research and administration, as these activities concern diseases of the skin.
The Department of Dermatology has active clinical and bench research programs to advance the body of knowledge of dermatological care and integration with other specialties. One aspect of this is the Clinical Trials Unit. The UNC Dermatology Clinical Trials Unit is a dynamic and industry-engaged team contributing impactful research and cutting-edge therapies to patients in North Carolina and beyond.
The Clinical Research Coordinator will coordinate the various clinical studies conducted within the Clinical Trials Unit of the Dermatology department (DCTU). This position will report directly to the DCTU manager and be responsible for the day-to-day operation of several major research projects. The coordinator will coordinate, at any given time, several clinical trials involving investigational drugs or biologics for a variety of disorders/diseases. Duties will include participant recruitment in both English and Spanish, study participant management, data collection, data management and query resolution, preparation and submission of IRB applications, and collection and processing of biospecimens. This position collect blood through venipuncture/phlebotomy in both adults and pediatric participants and will assist with biopsy collection. This role will also participate in some project management activities, including assisting with study startup.
This position will interface with various University departments, pharmaceutical companies, sponsors, contract research organizations, and federal agencies. This individual will be responsible for a broad range of duties that require considerable independence related to coordinating industry-sponsored clinical studies and some NIH funded or investigator-initiated clinical research.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Experience with phlebotomy in both adults and children/adolescents
- Experience with FDA regulated clinical research
- Experience recruiting and consenting for clinical trials
- Experience collecting and processing human biospecimens (ie. blood, urine, biopsies)
