The Clinical Research Fellow is a clinically focused role that supports patient care while contributing to IU Health’s academic and research mission. This position works closely with attending physicians, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary clinical teams to support patient evaluation, documentation, care coordination, and clinical decision‑making. In parallel, the Fellow assists with selected clinical research activities aligned with patient care initiatives, quality improvement efforts, and outcomes‑based studies. This role is designed to strengthen clinical exposure, enhance understanding of evidence‑based practice, and support the integration of research into real‑world clinical care.

Shift: Full time, Monday - Friday

Location: Indianapolis, IN

The Scope:

The Clinical Research Fellow plays an important role at the intersection of patient care, clinical education, and research. This position supports daily clinical workflows while contributing to research and quality initiatives that enhance patient outcomes. The Fellow works within fast‑paced clinical environments and collaborates across multidisciplinary teams, balancing hands‑on clinical support with research‑aligned responsibilities.

  • Support clinical teams with patient evaluation, documentation, and care coordination while participating in clinics, rounds, tumor boards, and multidisciplinary discussions.

  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and allied health professionals to support high‑quality patient care.

  • Assist with clinical data collection, quality initiatives, outcomes tracking, and development of clinical metrics and dashboards.

  • Contribute to clinically aligned research activities, including protocol support, IRB documentation, data collection, and preparation of reports or presentations.

  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, patient privacy standards, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and regulatory requirements while participating in clinical and educational activities.

  • The Project Coordinator acts as a key operational partner, helping to manage timelines, classroom coordination, communication, spreadsheets, and data systems to ensure training runs smoothly and consistently.


Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for this position will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification preferred.

  • Working knowledge of clinical trials data management principles and medical terminology preferred.

  • Requires basic proficiency in MS office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

  • Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience.

  • Prior experience in a clinical setting with direct patient exposure preferred

  • Familiarity with clinical documentation workflows and electronic medical records preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fastpaced clinical environment while supporting both patient care and researchaligned activities, preferred
