Clinical Social Worker

The Clinical Social Worker III will be on the social work/behavioral health team at the UCSF Women’s HIV Program (WHP). WHP is an outpatient primary care clinic for women with HIV (WWH) that uses an innovative model of trauma-informed healthcare (TIHC) to provide culturally sensitive and effective integrated medical and behavioral health care to patients as well as nurturing support to staff and providers. WHP has a strong multidisciplinary team of providers and staff to address patients’ needs in a holistic and integrated way—including primary care, pharmacy, Ob/Gyn, psychiatry, therapy, social work, case management, substance use, and nursing.

The Clinical Social Worker III will have a lead clinical and operational role on the team. Primary clinical responsibilities will include provide clinical guidance to MSW staff and interns, psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, counseling, brief therapeutic interventions, complex discharge planning, consultation, education, community linkages, supportive services, and facilitating the plan of care through the health care continuum for patients, families, significant others, and staff, with particular focus on high-risk populations. The CSW III will provide therapeutic support and coordinate resources and services in response to patients’ psychosocial needs while collaborating with Case Managers, Nursing Staff, Medical Staff, and ancillary departments with the goal of supporting a timely and safe discharges and/or meet the continuum of care needs within the fiscal realities of the case. The CSW III will act as the lead consultant to the multidisciplinary team on patients’ behavioral health and social work needs. The CSW III has advanced clinical knowledge and skills and will participate in leadership activities including program planning and operations, clinical supervision of staff and programs, consultation to the clinical team, other departments, and the community. The CSW III will be charged with leading behavioral health and social work programs and grants such as SAMHSA and Ryan-White federal grants to address substance use and mental health conditions in primary care through supervision of staff and the programs. Also, the CSW III will run the clinic’s MSW training program—working with the program director to recruit MSW interns and create education curriculum for trainees. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $46.10 - $79.62 (Hourly Rate).

• Master's degree from an accredited school of social work, possession of a clinical social worker license issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners, and two years of post-master’s experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position;
• Current California State License of Clinical Social Work in good standing.
• Three years’ experience in a healthcare or behavioral health setting with vulnerable populations.
• Demonstrated leadership ability and experience in previous job(s).
• Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
• Demonstrates organizational and analytic skills, resourcefulness, effective written and oral communication, diplomacy.
• Self-directed, assertive and creative in problem solving, systems planning and patient care management in a high-volume work environment.
• Experience in crisis de-escalation and trauma informed care.
• Proficient text/pager, telephone, and computer skills including utilizing the internet.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
• This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
• knowledge and skill to utilize the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM).

• Lived experience of and/or professional experience addressing HIV, trauma, racism and/or other forms of discrimination, substance use, mental health concerns, and chronic health conditions.
• Experience in facilitating groups with multiply diagnosed clients.
• Experience assessing and treating trauma and substance use in adults.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish – written, reading, and oral proficiency.
