About the Role:

The Clinical Technical Product Owner is responsible for driving disciplined, high-quality delivery for Equality Health’s clinical technology platforms. This role owns backlog quality, story definition, prioritization, and sprint execution for key clinical systems, ensuring work is aligned to business priorities, clinical workflows, and technical best practices.

This role blends Technical Product Owner, Business Analyst, and Scrum Master capabilities and requires a strong technical foundation. The Clinical Technical Product Owner partners closely with engineering, QA, clinical operations, and practice stakeholders to translate real-world clinical needs into scalable, well-designed solutions. The role is hands-on in requirements of definition, functional testing, UAT, and clinical design reviews.

Key Responsibilities:

Backlog Ownership & Agile Delivery

  • Own, refine, and prioritize the product backlog for CareEmpower, Athena Health, POM, RingCentral, and related clinical workflows.
  • Write clear, testable user stories and acceptance criteria that reflect both clinical workflows and technical constraints.
  • Facilitate backlog grooming, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews/demos, and retrospectives in partnership with engineering and QA.
  • Balance new feature delivery, technical debt, and production support work to maintain a healthy backlog and predictable delivery cadence.
  • Track and communicate delivery metrics (throughput, cycle time, spillover, predictability) to the Manager, Technical Product Owners and stakeholders.

Clinical Stakeholder Engagement & Voice of the Customer

  • Serve as the primary product partner for clinical stakeholders, including Care Management, Care Specialists, CHWs, and practice leadership.
  • Conduct interviews, workflow observations, and feedback sessions to understand current-state pain points and future-state needs.
  • Translate clinical feedback into prioritized epics, features, and user stories aligned to business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate regular demos, roadmap discussions, and status updates with clinical and operational stakeholders.

Requirements, Design & Engineering Collaboration

  • Partner closely with engineering leads, architects, and integration teams to design solutions that are technically feasible, scalable, and maintainable.
  • Document functional requirements, workflow diagrams, and data needs to support development and integration work.
  • Participate in solution and design reviews, providing clinical and operational context to guide technical decisions.
  • Support day-to-day clarification during sprints to ensure engineers always have well-defined, ready work.

Product Delivery

  • Accountable for end-to-end delivery outcomes across clinical systems, from intake and discovery through build, release, adoption, and measurable value realization.
  • Define outcome-based success measures (OKRs/KPIs) for major initiatives and track progress through delivery and post-release optimization.
  • Ensure delivery readiness through strong epic/story definition, acceptance criteria, testability, release planning, and change-management coordination.
  • Partner with Engineering on solution approaches, sequencing, and risk mitigation while maintaining accountability for business value and stakeholder alignment.
  • Drive release planning and stakeholder communications, ensuring appropriate training, enablement, and operational handoff for sustained adoption.

Functional Testing, UAT & Quality

  • Create and execute functional test cases for new features and changes across CareEmpower, Athena Health, POM, RingCentral, and all Salesforce development efforts. including both enterprise and clinical workflows.
  • Coordinate and facilitate user acceptance testing (UAT) with clinical SMEs, operational partners, and practice users.
  • Validate that delivered solutions meet acceptance criteria, clinical safety considerations, regulatory requirements, and user experience expectations.
  • Partner with QA to ensure appropriate test coverage based on risk and criticality of clinical workflows.

Process, Workflow & Experience Improvement

  • Analyze end-to-end clinical workflows across systems to identify opportunities to simplify, automate, and reduce rework.
  • Partner with design resources and clinical stakeholders to improve usability, adoption, and overall clinician experience.
  • Document standard operating procedures (SOPs), quick reference materials, and change impacts for clinical teams.
  • Promote consistent intake, prioritization, and feedback practices across clinical stakeholders.

Cross-Platform & Integration Awareness

  • Maintain a working understanding of the clinical technology stack and how CareEmpower, Athena Health, POM, RingCentral, and Salesforce interact.
  • Partner with integration and data teams to ensure requirements include data mapping, error handling, and data integrity considerations.
  • Support impact analysis and coordination when changes in one system affect workflows in another.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Health Informatics, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a Technical Product Owner, Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role supporting software delivery.
  • Background or hands-on experience in software development, engineering, or coding, with the ability to understand system design, integrations, data flows, and technical tradeoffs.
  • Experience working with clinical or healthcare technology platforms (e.g., care management tools, EHR/EMR, practice portals, or care coordination systems).
  • Hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum delivery, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and agile ceremonies.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate clinical and business requirements into clear, testable user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Comfort partnering closely with engineering teams on technical designs, integrations, and architectural decisions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and workflow impacts.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience with one or more platforms in scope (Athena Health, RingCentral, POM, Salesforce).
  • Deeper hands-on experience in software development, scripting, or engineering, with interest in progressing toward solution or integration architecture.
  • Experience acting as a Scrum Master or supporting a dual Product Owner / Scrum Master delivery model.
  • Familiarity with clinical workflows in value-based care, care management, or ambulatory practice environments.
  • Experience facilitating UAT, usability sessions, or structured feedback with clinical and business users.
  • Exposure to testing practices (functional testing, regression testing, test case design) and collaboration with QA teams.
  • Experience using Jira or similar tools for backlog, sprint, and release management.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and operate effectively in a fast-paced, highly cross-functional environment.
  • Strong desire to continue building technical depth and architectural responsibility over time.
