Position Overview
The Cloud Engineer/Architect II will support a multiyear federal program delivering engineering, modernization, and operational support across the Microsoft ecosystem. This position focuses on designing, optimizing, and supporting hybrid and cloud-based Microsoft products—including Microsoft 365, Exchange, and SharePoint, and related Microsoft services.
This is not just a ticket-based help desk role. The agency requires technical expertise, proactive recommendations, break/fix support, and hands-on engineering across multiple Microsoft products and services. Candidates with relevant Microsoft certifications will be prioritized.
This role may require rolling team-based shifts to support a 24/7 operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Microsoft Product Architecture & Engineering
- Work with Microsoft cloud-based infrastructure and services.
- Support and provide expert technical solutions that integrate software, network, and security components to support current and future organizational needs.
- Evaluate and ensure alignment of system development efforts with agency enterprise architectures; recommend adjustments when necessary.
- Support and lead cloud migration planning, execution, and optimization efforts across Microsoft platforms.
Microsoft Product Expertise
- Candidates must be proficient in one or more of following Microsoft Products.
- Each Microsoft product will be evaluated independently.
- Provide engineering-level support, troubleshooting, and optimization for:
- Microsoft Exchange (end-user support, security, administration, custom configurations)
- Microsoft 365 / Teams (account admin, security, customization, tenant management)
- Microsoft SharePoint (support, workflows, forms, migration to SharePoint Online)
System Optimization & Performance
- Recommend proactive improvements, performance tuning, and security enhancements across Microsoft products.
- Ensure high availability, scalability, and resilience of Microsoft product environments.
- Provide technical leadership in developing system documentation, architecture diagrams, SOPs, and technical reports.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with federal leadership and technical SMEs to solve problems, resolve incidents, and perform system changes.
- Participate in ongoing modernization efforts aligned with agency cloud strategy.
- Provide guidance and technical direction to junior engineers or support staff as needed.
Security & Compliance
- Support compliance with federal security standards and agency-specific cloud security requirements.
- Recommend and implement best practices for identity management, access control, and data governance across Microsoft cloud services.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering, systems engineering, or enterprise technical roles.
- Demonstrated experience with one or more Microsoft technologies:
- Exchange
- M365 / Teams
- SharePoint On-Prem & SharePoint Online
- Strong understanding of cloud networking, end user support, Microsoft account management, and Microsoft security frameworks.
- Ability to troubleshoot and lead complex technical issues spanning Microsoft products and related services.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft 365 or Exchange/SharePoint certifications
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Troubleshooting techniques
- Significant experience supporting federal environments or large enterprise systems
- Experience working with end users of all experience levels
