Cloud Migration Architect (VMware Specialist)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Migration Architect to lead the strategy, design, and execution of large-scale data center and workload migrations. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in VMware virtualization platforms, particularly vSphere, NSX-T and VMware Cloud Director (VCD), and will be responsible for transitioning complex enterprise workloads to modern private cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead workload assessment and discovery initiatives to analyze existing environments, identifying application dependencies and migration readiness.
• Develop comprehensive migration strategies, roadmaps, and execution plans for complex workload transitions to private cloud environments.
• Design and architect migration solutions, selecting appropriate methodologies and tooling to meet business objectives.
• Create detailed High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation for migration patterns, target zone infrastructure, and network connectivity.
• Orchestrate and oversee the execution of migration waves, providing technical leadership and troubleshooting complex issues during cutover events.
• Establish and maintain migration standards, best practices, and repeatable governance frameworks.
• Collaborate closely with application, security, networking, and operations teams to ensure a seamless and secure migration process with minimal business disruption.
• Design identity and access integration strategies for migrated workloads in the target environment.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 5 years focused on large-scale data center design and workload migration projects.
• Deep expertise in the VMware virtualization stack, including vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, NSX, vSAN, and VMware Cloud Director (VCD).
• Proven track record of successfully leading and executing complex migrations from diverse environments to Vmware based private clouds.
• Strong understanding of data center infrastructure, including networking (TCP/IP, BGP, VPN), connectivity (MPLS, Ipsec), storage (SAN, NAS), and enterprise backup solutions.
• Experience with compliance frameworks and designing solutions that meet security standards.
• Strong documentation skills with experience creating architecture artifacts, migration runbooks, and technical specifications.
  
  

Technical Skills

• VMware Technologies: vSphere/ESXi 6.x/7.x/8.x, VMware Cloud Director (VCD), vCenter Server, NSX-T, vSAN.
• Migration Tools & Methodologies: VCDA, VMware HCX, vSphere Replication, Zerto, Carbonite Migrate, Azure Migrate, and/or other enterprise migration tools.
• Networking: Hybrid connectivity, data center networking, software-defined networking (SDN).
• Discovery & Analysis: Experience with discovery tools like vRealize Operations (Aria), vRNI or other discovery platforms.
• Operating Systems: Windows Server and Linux.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) certification.
• Experience with multi-cloud architectures.
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration platforms.
• Background in enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman).

Additional Information

This role requires frequent travel to client sites and the ability to work out of business hours when needed for migration cutovers.
