We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machining and be proficient in operating CNC machinery. This role involves working with various tools and equipment to produce precision parts and components according to specifications. The CNC Machinist will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of our manufacturing processes.
Job Summary:
To set up and operate a variety of machines in conformance with company set-up and quality standards. Responsible for efficient and time-effective set-up and quality and quantity of product produced. Sets up and operates conventional, special-purpose and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, maintainability of materials, and layout techniques. Under general supervision, sets up and operates standard milling machines, lathes and other machine tools as directed in the support of research and development activities. Assists in the design and fabrication of fixtures, tooling and experimental parts to meet special scientific needs.
Essential Functions:
- Reads blueprints and inspects parts to blueprint specifications. Uses precision measuring tools. Assists with cleaning the machine. Sets up and maintains machinery in respective department. Determines all items (gears, collets, feed fingers, etc.) to be used for set up. Determines the sequence of tooling, sharpens and adjusts tools to ensure proper tolerances and finish. Instruct machine operators on how to use machines and maintain the tolerances. Performs minor machine repair and maintenance. Inspects all parts for accuracy to blueprint specifications. Sets up and/or operates mills, grinders, and drill presses. Build jigs and fixtures. Make prototype and engineer specials, as well as repair and production parts.
- Asks forklift driver to bring skids of designated raw material to machine.
- Runs designated quantity for production run, periodically checking for quality of product. Observes and listens to operation of equipment to diagnose malfunction and to determine need for adjustment or repair.
- Asks forklift driver to remove bins of finished product from machine.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece and setup requirements to determine optimal sequence of operations.
- Measures, marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on materials or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders and shapers.
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
- Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
- Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine setting or programmed control data.
- Confers with supervisors, engineers, or others to resolve machining problems.
- Knowledge of materials – availability, general characteristics, static and stresses, machineability, heat treating/stress relieving procedures.
- Able to estimate time required/cost to produce a part.
- Performs CNC programming/CAM tasks
- Other duties not listed above to assist others on the shop floor and to meet or exceed departmental and company goals.
- Operates numerically controlled machines, lathes, drills or other machine tools to fabricate parts.
- Builds and/or modifies equipment in accordance to established specifications to meet specific job requirements.
- Repairs and/or modifies existing and new scientific equipment in accordance with established specifications and procedures.
- Assembles or assists in the assembly of experimental apparatus according to engineering instructions and technical manuals.
- Assists in record keeping, to include schematics, work instructions, mechanical drawings, documentary photographs, and sketches.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies
- Promotes workplace safety.
- Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned
Additional Responsibilities:
May operate forklift truck to place raw material at machines or remove finished product to shed if individual has been trained.
Minimum Education and Experience:
H.S. diploma or G.E.D. equivalency preferred. Previous experience reading blueprints and using precision measuring tools a plus. Mechanically inclined. Previous CNC machining experience a plus. Technical certificate, or equivalent coursework or training in a directly related area. Six months to one year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Ability to operate numerically controlled machines, lathes, drills and other related equipment to machine parts. Ability to read schematics, engineering drawings and technical manuals. Ability to perform standard shop computations. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Records maintenance issues. Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
Training Program: Daily. Off site formal training as appropriate.
Working Conditions:
Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
Physical Effort:
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds. Standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Environmental Conditions:
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
