Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled CNC Setter/Operator with a solid background in precision engineering. The ideal candidate will be conversant with Heidenhain controls and have experience working with CNC machinery in a fast-paced, high-precision environment. As a CNC Setter/Operator, you will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC machines, ensuring the production of components to the highest quality standards, and adhering to tight tolerances.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate CNC machines, ensuring correct tooling, fixtures, and programming.
- Work with Heidenhain-controlled CNC machines to manufacture components to precise specifications.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Perform quality checks on finished parts using measuring instruments (micrometers, verniers, gauges, etc.).
- Adjust machine settings, tools, and parameters to ensure consistent product quality.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with machines, tools, or materials during the manufacturing process.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment and adhere to health and safety regulations.
- Ensure production runs efficiently and meet deadlines without compromising quality.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow and meet production goals.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
- Ensure all necessary documentation, including job sheets and inspection records, is completed accurately.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a CNC Setter/Operator, ideally with experience using Heidenhain-controlled machines.
- Strong background in precision engineering with a good understanding of tight tolerances and high-quality manufacturing standards.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with using measuring instruments (micrometers, verniers, height gauges, etc.).
- Ability to set up and operate CNC machines independently.
- Experience with troubleshooting and problem-solving in a CNC environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high levels of accuracy.
- Good communication and team-working skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a manufacturing environment.
- Ideally, experience with CAD/CAM software or a willingness to learn.
Desirable Skills:
- Heidenhain control experience is highly desirable.
- Experience in operating a variety of CNC machines, including lathes and mills.
- Familiarity with manufacturing techniques such as turning, milling, and drilling.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.
Pay scale £14.50 - £17.00 p/h + overtime
Overtime @ 1.5 hourly rate
2pm finish on Friday
