CNC Production Machinist – Precision Metals & Composites

Onsite | IR Industrial US, Inc. | 156 Aro Road, Southern Pines, NC 28387

Shift: 2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., Monday–Friday (overtime and weekends as needed)

Starting pay: $22.03/hour, with potential to increase based on experience

A day in your life here

It’s 2:30 p.m. in Southern Pines, and you’re stepping onto the floor ready to own your craft. You begin by reviewing routing documents and drawings, then set up CNC equipment for the evening’s production run. You verify tooling, check offsets, and confirm your first-piece inspection. As parts come off the machine, you load, unload, and verify quality with micrometers, calipers, bore/plug gauges, indicators, and height stands. Dull tools get replaced, burrs are removed, and bushings or pins are pressed in or out with a hand press. Throughout the shift you practice 5S, follow ISO procedures, meet or beat setup and cycle targets, and document notes for a smooth handoff to the next team. When problems appear, you jump into root-cause mode and partner with teammates—including Machinist II and III—on continuous improvement.

What you’ll do

  • Set up and run CNC lathes, mills, and grinders to produce metallic and non-metallic components to print.
  • Load/unload parts; conduct in-process inspections (with supervision when needed) to confirm specifications.
  • Adjust cutters, apply cutting fluids properly, and use optimized metal-removal techniques to control chips and material yield.
  • Perform operations on manual equipment (e.g., drill press) as required.
  • Deburr parts and use a hand press to install/remove bushings or pins.
  • Maintain a safe, organized (5S) work area; model Ingersoll Rand values on the floor.
  • Capture notes, write follow-up reports, and document issues/concerns for the next shift.
  • Participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement events; support teammates as needed.
  • Follow all company/HR policies, ISO procedures, and safety rules—including PPE requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; additional technical education is a plus.
  • At least 1 year of machining experience or a Technical College equivalent.
  • Comfort reading prints, routings, gauges, and procedure manuals; able to communicate clearly in small groups or one-on-one.
  • Solid shop math, including fractions, decimals, ratios, and percentages; proficient with a standard calculator.
  • Use of basic hand tools; able to lift 35 lbs independently and follow safe material-handling practices.
  • Reasoning skills to follow detailed instructions and solve problems in standardized situations.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, team-oriented, and eager to keep learning.
