Your mission

We are seeking a skilled and motivated CNC Programmer / Setter to join our growing team. This role is responsible for the precise programming, setup, and operation of CNC machinery to manufacture high precision, complex machined components in line with engineering drawings and customer specifications.
Our work spans low, medium, and high-volume production, supporting a diverse client base. As such, the ideal candidate will be adaptable, detail-oriented, and capable of responding to changing production demands, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and a proactive mindset towards continuous improvement and operational excellence.

About the role

Machine Programming

  • Plan, create, and optimise CNC programs from customer-supplied drawings and 3D models.
  • Apply best practice machining strategies, utilising the latest tooling and workholding technologies to achieve optimal results.
  • Use Openmind Hypermill CAM software to develop efficient and accurate machining programs.
Machine Setup & Operation
  • Prepare and configure 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC machining centres.
  • Select and install appropriate tooling and workholding solutions.
  • Load raw materials and components, ensuring accurate positioning and alignment.
  • Load and verify NC programs, tool offsets, and work coordinates.
  • Conduct simulation checks, dry runs, and in-cycle inspections to ensure safe and accurate machining.
  • Adjust machine parameters to optimise performance, cycle time, and quality.
  • Modify or produce workholding solutions as required.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace organisation.
Quality Assurance & Process Control
  • Inspect finished components to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
  • Identify and correct programming or process discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate in-process inspection records and production data.
  • Monitor process stability and proactively address tool wear, dimensional drift, or inconsistencies.
  • Support continuous improvement of cycle times and production efficiency.
Tooling, Workholding & Material Handling
  • Select, assemble, and maintain cutting tools, tool holders, and workholding systems.
  • Ensure proper material handling, identification, and batch traceability.
  • Maintain compliance with all job documentation and paperwork requirements.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
  • Diagnose and resolve machining issues, including tool breakage, chatter, poor surface finish, burrs, and thermal drift.
  • Respond to machine alarms and minimise downtime.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning and fluid checks.
  • Apply 6S and TPM methodologies to maintain a clean, organised, and efficient workspace.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed in line with the TPM plan.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all health & safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal standards.
  • Actively contribute to lean manufacturing initiatives.
Teamwork & Communication
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, quality inspectors, programmers, and maintenance teams.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to trainees or apprentices.
  • Communicate effectively regarding production status, quality issues, and improvement opportunities.
