Parker Hannifin is seeking a skilled CNC Setter/Operator to join our manufacturing team in Crewkerne, UK on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced machining professional to play a key role in delivering high-quality components in a safe, efficient, and continuously improving production environment.
Position Summary
As a CNC Setter/Operator, you will be responsible for the full setting and operation of Citizen sliding head machines and grinding machines, ensuring components are produced to specification, on time, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires strong technical capability, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a clear sense of ownership for machine operability, part accuracy, and production traceability.
You will be trusted to make informed decisions on component quality, machine offsets and settings, minor program edits, and the proving of new programs, while ensuring all work is carried out in line with routing instructions, works orders, and Parker’s safety and quality expectations.
Responsibilities

Set and operate Citizen sliding head and grinding machines in line with production requirements and approved processes.

Carry out full machine set-ups, including tooling, program selection, loading, and machine preparation for production runs.

Follow routing cards, works orders, technical drawings, and process instructions accurately at all times.

Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to ensure components meet dimensional and quality requirements.

Select and load the correct CNC programs, making approved offset changes, setting adjustments, and minor program edits where required.

Support the proving of new programs and new set-ups in line with operational requirements.

Take ownership of part accuracy, making adjustments to offsets, tooling, speeds, and feeds to optimise performance, cycle times, and quality.

Perform first-off approvals and carry out in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, gauges, and other appropriate tools.

Make informed decisions on component quality acceptance, escalating concerns where necessary.

Carry out in-cycle deburring and ensure components are finished to the required standard.

Record output, scrap, and production data accurately to maintain quality and production traceability.

Maintain and update tooling sheets and program information as required.

Identify and recommend tooling and process improvements to support quality, efficiency, and cost reduction.

Ensure compliance with Kanban processes, helping to maintain smooth workflow and effective production control.

Monitor machine and process performance, escalating issues promptly and ensuring materials, tooling, and gauging are available to meet production needs.

Support TPM activities and carry out routine machine maintenance to help maintain machine operability and reliability.

Participate in HPT activities and contribute positively to continuous improvement initiatives.

Maintain high standards of 5S, housekeeping, and workplace organisation.

Work in full compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and EHS requirements, including the correct use of PPE at all times.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:

Previous experience in a CNC Setter/Operator position within a precision manufacturing environment.

Practical experience of setting and operating sliding head and/or grinding machines, ideally including Citizen machines.

Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, routing instructions, and works orders.

Experience of carrying out full machine set-ups, selecting programs, loading tooling, and making machine adjustments.

Good understanding of offset changes, tooling adjustments, speeds/feeds optimisation, and cycle time improvement.

Confidence in conducting first-off and in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment.

A disciplined approach to quality, traceability, and accurate production recording.

Awareness of Kanban systems, production flow, and the importance of maintaining materials, tooling, and gauging readiness.

Commitment to safe working practices, including EHS compliance, 5S, and correct PPE use.

A proactive and team-focused attitude, with the ability to identify issues, take ownership, and escalate appropriately.
