Schedule:
Day Shift. 40 hours weekly. 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
About The Position
This position has the responsibility for providing accurate, complete, and appropriate coding using ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT classification systems for the Richmond and Connersville locations. Assigns appropriate APC grouping according to diagnoses specified in the record by the treating provider(s) and in keeping with regulatory requirements. Abstracts relevant clinical and demographic information from the medical record.
Overview Of Responsibilities

Codes outpatient medical records for the purpose of quality planning and assessment, reimbursement, research and compliance with Federal regulations according to ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 classification systems.

Accurately performs data entry/abstraction on all patients into the applicable computer system.

Calculates the proper APC assignment.

Assists providers with appropriate diagnosis determination as needed.

Keeps current with coding guidelines, rules and regulations and new codes.

Refers coding and system questions to the Coding Manage, Supervisor, and/or Director in a timely manner.

Works assigned edit work queues to determine correct coding and modifier assignments on a timely basis.

Assists with abstraction and retrieval of data for special studies.

Assists other departments with coding functions as needed.

Codes encounters in accordance with all productivity and quality standards established by the organization.

Follows compliance with all laws, regulations, and guidelines of federal and state programs with an emphasis on prevention of fraud, waste, and abuse.

Position includes other duties and projects as assigned to support goals and outcomes consistent with department expectations.

Actively participates in area and department meetings.

Attends other meetings as requested

Education & E
xperience

Education Required: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience Preferred: One (1) year previous same-day surgery/observation coding experience preferred.
Licensure And Certification

Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or
-
Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or
-
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or
-
Registered Health Information Administrator or similar certification required and must be obtained within 6 months of hire
