About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head Coffee Roaster to lead our roasting program, drive quality excellence, and oversee green coffee sourcing and production. This role blends craftsmanship, leadership, and operational expertise to ensure every batch reflects our commitment to quality, consistency, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities Roasting & Production

  • Lead all roasting operations, including profiling, batch execution, and quality control.
  • Develop and refine roast profiles to highlight origin characteristics and meet brand standards.
  • Manage production schedules to meet wholesale, retail, and e-commerce demand.
  • Maintain detailed roast logs and production records.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of roasting equipment

Quality Control

  • Lead cupping sessions and sensory evaluations.
  • Establish and maintain QC protocols from green intake to finished product.
  • Collaborate with café teams to monitor coffee performance and extraction standards.
  • Continuously improve flavor consistency and product quality.

Green Coffee Sourcing

  • Work with green importers and producers to source high-quality coffees.
  • Manage green inventory levels and forecast purchasing needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and partners.

Leadership & Training

  • Supervise and train roasting and production staff.
  • Develop SOPs for roasting, packaging, and inventory processes.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing and sales teams on product launches.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards and workplace safety regulations.
  • Oversee cleanliness and organization of the roasting facility.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years professional coffee roasting experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in roast profiling and sensory analysis.
  • Strong understanding of green coffee grading and sourcing.
  • Experience managing production teams and schedules.
  • Proficiency with roasting software and inventory systems.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a production environment.

Preferred:

  • Q Grader certification.
  • Experience working with specialty coffee importers and direct trade relationships.
