SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under general supervision of the Division Manager, or designee, this position provides the opportunity to perform a full range of duties related to the functions of the Department. You will have the opportunity to work on real projects that align with your interests and career aspirations.
Your role in the group is an important one, your work is taken seriously, and you are counted on as a contributing member of a team. This internship will culminate in the implementation, as practical, and presentation of a final project that will contribute to both the City of McKinney and your academic and professional development.

Essential Functions/Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Duties Specific to Human Resources

  • Develop hands-on experience to day-to-day HR operations and front-desk customer service support
  • Participate in wellness program and events
  • Assist with benefits orientation sessions
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to internal Hiring Guide and other HR-materials/handouts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists with researching local, state, and national programs, policies, etc. to ensure our department is at or above standard.
  • Complies with all written City policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the below Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute.

Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program at an accredited college.

The Internship program is flexible to accommodate varying college internship requirements.

Physical Demands/Supplemental

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (25 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station. Some tasks require visual and sound perception and discrimination and oral communications ability.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office setting. May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry and vision to monitor. May be subject to frequent bending, reaching, kneeling and lifting. There is limited exposure to environmental conditions.
